Euh, this might sound like a stupid question, but can you guys name some effects that can be done with a svengali deck?

The Cardiologist Deck is, essentially a svengali deck.

Sorry but I don't actually know much myself about svengalis.

MOST places sell an inexpensive (circa £4.99) handbook called 101 tricks with a Svengali deck.

There's bound to be something for eveyone's liking in this.

Also, if you do a search for Svengali then you will find many posts, some include suggested routines as I recall a number of people, including myself posting these.

think about it a bit man theres lots of tricks you can do were you already know what card they are going to choose from a free choice.

ok examples as asked for:-

52 to 1 coincidence, a freely choosen card is found to be the only card reversed in a deck with a diferent back colur ala invisible / brainwave deck.
up in smoke, a card is freely choosen and tabled unlooked at the rest of the deck being ribbon spread face up.
you sign a piece of paper and burn it in an ashtray and have the spec touch some ash to the back of the card, on turning over there card has your signature burned into it.
diabolical up in smoke, same setup as up in smoke except that spec rolls a die adds top and bottom numbers, the number they rolled too is printed on the front of the card.

hope this gives you some creative ideas i have several in my arsenal

I have just read Kenton Kneppers manuscript 'miracles of suggestion'. It has a great effects in that called svengali eyes. Though I think credit is given to Luke Jermay.
It all depends on how brave you want to be with the deck.

No it isn't. It's closer to a Mene Tekel deck, I'd say.

Not sure if this will help but one of my prezzies from Santa was The Encyclopedia of Card Tricks (formerly known as 'The Encyclopaedia of Card Tricks'!) by Jean Hugard and JJ Crimmins and, apart from hundreds of other ideas and tricks, it contains 21 using the Svengali, 7 using the Mene-Tekel and 50 using the Stripper - including some for the end Stripper. At £9.99 is seems to be quite a bargain - the publishers are Foulsham and the ISBN is 0-572-02620-X

Talking of Mene-Tekel decks (we were honestly), I came up with a svengali deck where all the cards are different values (I thought about 52), and also all the same length. It will simply be called the Tekel deck.

I have have some already made up, I refer to them as my Test Tekels

Wow thanks folks! I've been wanting to buy a svengali deck and I've heard that you can do many tricks with it, but I had no idea what a svengali deck is. So you can do many tricks with it, eh

Do you guys use the deck frequently? Or is it more of a beginner deck?

I's a beginner deck, saying that it can be used for some pretty powerful effects. I probably dem the sven to upwards of a 100 people a week and I do find it gets very strong reactions but it is sometimes known.
