Not strictly a magic film, but it seems to play a big part in the plot.

this is the movies official site.

I cant see any references as to who magicaly advised.

its a wonderfull looking film, and i disagree with your statement that its not a magic film.
the plot, seems to be about an old retired magician passing on his craft, and building up a friendship with a young lad along the way.

Wow - nice to see real acting in a trailer and not just lots of explosions and robots. Looks like an excellent bit of cinema.

Well, what I meant was that the film appears to be more focused on the kid and the relationships with the magic as a plot tool, as opposed to other 'magic' movies where they are quite clearly about the magic.
Perhaps im wrong. Its hard to tell without seeing the movie.

Incidentally, Michael Caine was also in one of those movies. Coincidence, or does he have some reason to be in films about magic?

 While I love that sort of stuff I've become rather tired of paying nearly $10.00 to see an overrated animated adventure with some live "actors" superimposed around the animation. So I can agree with you on that front (not that I don't appreciate how CGI aids in creating more realism vs. dramatic effect here and there.)

As to the Michael Caine film, I shall have to look it up. I've always loved his work and for some reason I'm betting the gent has a genuine affinity towards magic, given the number of films he's done in recent years that tie him to the art. 8)

well, now then in all seriouness i can shed a little bit of light on mr Caine's affection towards things magical.

His first big break, as we know , was a little movie called Zulu.

and the director of Zulu was.....

Cy Endfield.

who was at the time, one of the darlings of the card world, and ranked with the likes of Alex Elmsey, Dai vernon, etc.
Indeed his books on card magic are still required reading. They contain many effects not seen today.

anyhow, Cy used to do stuff on set.So young Mr micklewhite, would of been exposed to some of the greatest card magic of its day.

Thanks to the glorious website SeeFilmFirst.com, I have recieved 2 preview tickets to see it tomorrow. Will post a short review once I've seen it, and let you know if it's worth a look (which, from the trailer, it seems like it will be).
