Lubly to meet you all (again for some).... Specially Tomo, and Gunnar (who is so cuddly lol) who are not one bit what i imagined, they were much much nicer lol...

Till next time,

Gunnar was lovely too, and graciously allowed me to demonstrate that I know exactly one fact about his homeland. No trains (or was it trees).

Unfortunatly there wasnt enough time for me to perform as I also had to leave at 7.

I did think about wearing my dog collar or putting reverend on my badge but thought it would be frowned upon :?
the guy chatting to Fairie? That narrows it down no end

I would like to echo what everyone else has said.

They always are great days from a social point of view. Meeting up with friends we don't get to see that often and making new friends, makes the day great by itself.

But this meeting with Docc and Anthony - was simply incredible. Seeing Anthony perform his mixture of mentalism and hypnosis was a joy, and apart from all the information he shared, what an amazingly strong routine! Way to go Anthony!

As for Docc Hilford. What a character he is. He was inspirational just being there. His whole manner creates a wonderful impact - and what he showed us. Oh boy, Oh boy, Oh boy.

His nightmare coin routine just proved how powerful mentalism can be over magic, in much the same way as Rudi did when he talked about his presentation for a disappearing ring. Mentalism affects the emotions. We should never forget that.

The second part of the Docc's lecture though, was the icing on the cake. He showed us his four billet routine and all the subleties that went with it which was beautiful, absolutely beautiful. However, the sysem 88 demonstartion with Sarah was simply breathtaking. I know I know - it sounds like I am exaggerating. I am not. It sounds like I am gushing. I am. It is no wonder that this guy is a legend. Honestly I mean everyword when I say that even if Derren Borwn had been there, I dont think he could have impressed me as much as Docc Hilford.

Tabula Mentis goes from strength to strength. I just wish there was more time to socialise. It was especially great seeing Gunnar again, and catching up wth several TalkMagic members, but I just wish there was more time for that. There were so many people there that I wanted to talk to more and never got around to, so apologies to all for that.

After the meeting closed officially and just before the pub, there was a little more time for chating, and a few people were demonstrating a few ideas, or just showing wonderful props. I think Tabula Mentis is as much about this as it is the wonderful lectures and official events that take place

Dale, had an incredible nest of boxes - which from that description sounds no big deal, but if you had seen it you would have been impressed. Mark Elsdon was showing the new Jim Critchlow effect "Til death do us part" - which will be every bit as strong as white star - if not more so. Watch out for the release of that. I know lozey has a few things with her that I would have liked to have seen (and I did see her starting to show Roni at one point - and wanted to rush over, but was being shown something by someone else. I think it was Nick Brown who has a very nice puzzle idea, that I had heard talk about and was looking forward to seing.

All in all a great day. Roll on November.

It was a great day and I agree that System 88 was stunning. I've been doing magic for 25 years and thought I knew a bit. Mentalism takes the performance in a different direction and I learned so much from the discussions and lectures that it was impossible to take it all in.
My only worry now is how do we top the legend that is Doc Hilford.
Bananafish thanks for the mention of my puzzle, being mentioned in the same review as all the stunning stuff that went on puts a cherry on top of a fantastic day for me.
See you all in November.

Your puzzle was great, very nice workmanship. I just wished I'd took Doccs super deal and got all his stuff.

This was my first time and it was very very good.
I met some great people. I also felt welcome. Everyone seemed friendly.
Doc H and Anthony were great. Todd's deck will get snapped up when it finally comes out.
Anyone interested in mentalism really needs to get to the Nov meeting.
All in all, I came away very inspired.
I was the guy in black with the long leather coat.
Unfortunately (!) I had to leave at 5pm to go to Farnham Beer Festival (sigh)
but I managed to floor my friends with a few things :)
I did get quite a few strange looks though. he he.

I don't know if Peter and his wife come on here, but alas I missed his surname.

Thanks Mort! The deck is made up of 5 sets of authentic ink blot cards with two bonus cards to make 52, and Card Shark has added his usual touches for an enhanced performance. These are perfect for straight conjuring, mentalism, and readings with infinite variety. The properties and number of cards mean that you have a possible 12 million combinations for doing readings. I took a set to Shanghai last week and had so much fun with them. We spent 20 minutes just talking about them and letting people give their first impressions before the magic started! They will come in red back and blue back, and INMHO offer a rich alternative to Zener cards. Stay tuned!

The day was a joy to behold. The roundtable discussion was great as we heard three different views and superb interaction with participants. Docc's first lecture was great as we saw items from his Monster Mentalism DVDs in action.

James Hanrahan gave us a nice little tip on calculators that will be used by many I am sure.

Anthony pushed back the frontiers of performance by combining hypnotism and mentalism in such a powerful way. He used a lot of techniques from Reality is Plastic (get this book!) and combined them with a wonderful serial killer routine.

Docc's second lecture made the whole day for me. System 88 in action, and the kind of interaction from a master that showed everyone how to 'do it for real'! He is a real gem and was so fun to be around.

All in all, Psycrets is going from strength to strength. The next meeting is 21 November and the line up is looking strong. Already had three folks book for it!

Best wishes

Thank you!
to Dr. Todd, Roni, Steve, Tim and all you others for organizing such an interesting event.

Docc Hilford was mesmerizing, Anthony Jacquin was astonishing, to mention a few - and it was wonderful to meet so many of the TalkMagic members in person.

All the best,

Reading back through the copious notes I took on Saturday, certain things stand out from Docc Hilford's excellent lectures. One was the idea of being an entertainer before anything else. I've certainly been asked to do a short set at friends' parties before now and have done nothing more than just be good company, tell a few funnies and never really got started, but people have nonetheless said how much they enjoyed what I did.

And the idea that if you're going to use any kind of pasteboards, you should hold them high and include "you" in the scene makes perfect sense in a number of ways. The haymow shuffle I use on my Stebbins stacked deck is now done high up with the faces showing. It's even messier this way, ramming home the idea that it's a real shuffle.

Geoffrey Durham is very clear about always including 'you' in the effect by holding cards, props etc at head height wherever possible - it makes all the difference between performing an average trick and a presenting a stunning effect.
