Richard Sanders Show vol 3 (out of 3)

Postby Groovebird » Apr 23rd, '09, 22:12

I'm going to review this dvd's in seperate posts. Otherwise there is too much to read in one post.

BTW: Am I the only one or that tinks Richard Sanders voice sounds like Bill Clinton's :D

Effect:
Each one of these incredible DVD's contains several creative stunners that have been part of Richard’s close-up arsenal for over 20 years! You’ll learn underground miracles that are practical for real world use. Take your magic to the next level with The Richard Sanders Show!

cost: 30$

difficulty:
I would say, 3 - 4. Some easy effects. Some that use couple of sleights.

Review:

VOL3

Shaken: Visual card magic at it’s most visual! Watch dots drawn on a card VISUALLY REGROUP to form the outline of a selected card. All this happens on the back of a signed card that the spectator keeps as a souvenir!
It works on the same principle as 'Named' on the first dvd.
I like to perform these kind of tricks because you can give the signed card the spectator at the end. I think a signed card, together with your business card is just perfect to score some other gigs.

Card in Ear: A two card selection routine where cards change, one card ends up behind the performer’s ear and finally the whole deck vanishes leaving only the 2 selections. A smorgasbord of amazing magic in one routine!

This is not really a trick on itself but more of a utility move you can use in ACR. It's a nice little thing you'll definitely use once you know how it's done.

Discovered: An unexplainable card revelation that will fool even the most knowledgeable magicians. The best part is...it’s self working!

I should say it's not completely self working. It doesn't use sleights but you'll have to use some of that grey matter in your head to perform this trick, if you know what I mean :)

Trick Photography: A selected card vanishes from the pack and reappears inside the magician’s hand...inside a picture! This routine has become a standard in many magician’s professional performing repertoires!

This is the magic I like the most! Close up effects that use props! My entire close up case is filled with special decks, special coins, little wallets, and so on.
This is also a prop trick that you can make yourself. Very visual and something your spectators wil definitely remember.

The Audio Vanish: Vanish any small item from your card case! A ring is dropped into the card case. In short sleeves, the magician shakes the card case and the ring is heard rattling inside. When the spectator says go...the rattling immediately stops and the ring is gone from the
case. Everything is self contained and there really is nothing in the
case at the end!

Like a couple of other tricks on these volumes this isn't really a trick on itself but more of a utility move or gimmick you can use with other coin and / or ring routines.
The method is dead simple and you'll hit yourself on the head saying "why didn't I think of that" once you know how its done.

Stickmen 4: A wild packet trick that uses only 4 cards!
One at time little stickmen start appearing on the backs of four jokers.

A cool packet trick with some very cool transpositions and transformations.
It also has a cute story, so it's perfect for a young audience.

Sugarless Bill: A borrowed bill vanishes and then reappears inside an unopened,
sealed package of gum! This trick alone has landed Richard thousands of dollars worth
of contracts! As a bonus you will see Richard performing this trick on Canadian television.

What do i got to say about this ? Well, this trick is just perfect. It's one of those effects Theory11 or E would sell for 40 bucks. And with Richard Sanders... you just get it as a bonus on a 30 $ dvd. Isn't that nice of him :)
This effect is wonderfull. I haven't tried it yet with a packet of gum so I don't know how the reactions are in real life but I can imagine they're out of this world.

Castle Purse: The closing effect to Richard’s Magic Castle performance.
A folded card is shown inside a small coin purse and then set aside. A card is chosen
and signed by a spectator. A small selection of tricks are performed. To end the
performance a small set of tweezers are used to gently and very slowly remove
the folded card from the coin purse. THE FOLDED CARD IN THE PURSE IS
THE SIGNED SELECTION! As a bonus, you will see Richard perform this
miracle live at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.

Another strong effect with a transposition of a card to what seems to be an impossible location. This is just some powerfull Richard Sanders material. Use it whise!

Overall

This is my most favorite dvd out of the 3. It has some good principles and utility moves and gimmicks.
I would also go as far as saying these volumes are the best purchase I ever made when it comes to close up.

8/10

I made up Stickman 4 and use it in my table hopping routine. It is FANTASTIC!
This little effect is worth the cost of the DVD alone. The reactions are brill, if you have this DVD make it up - you won't regret it.
