How many?

Postby taffy » Apr 30th, '09, 11:42

Just wondering and trying to remember how many 'new' members have joined TM within the last 12 months, and are no where to be seen now!

How many new members who joined within the last 12 months still frequent the boards on a regular basis?

I know its a rubbish topic, but it's something that just popped in to my head. How many people join and leave just as quick?

Impossible is nothing, if you only believe!

I joined within the last 12 months and am on most days, although i seem to be more of a lurker than a regular poster.....But I'm here though!

I think about 99.89% of members join up, make a handful of posts (if that) and then leave or continue to lurk. As for the lurkers who never join in the first place, they probably number in the millions. (OK, perhaps not millions, but you get the gist).

If we graphed it, it might look like this: graphy graphy.

then the only thing left is the method.

For those who like to read the numbers, out of the 13797 registered users at the time of writing this, 5366 have posted, the rest - zilch! Some of those are professionals who read but don't contribute openly, many others registered just to advertise or trade and I suppose the rest must be those who thought it was a good idea to register but never did anything more.

I joined within the last 12 months! However, everyone is an expert compared to my amateur self! So I really feel I don't have much to contribute at the moment :)

One only gets the "view new posts" option if one has registered, so I would expect that many people register simply for that feature.

You could do some interesting data mining and IP correlation ...
