Beyond ESP 2 or Symbology? (oh, and Davenports)

Postby MagicIain » Feb 1st, '05, 06:46

Other than Heirloom, and a few card effects that can be presented 'mentally,' I'm a newcomer to mentalism and the like, so my question is simple.

Do I buy the Symbology deck or the Beyond ESP 2 deck?

Also, I'm off to Davenports on Wednesday... anyone been recently? What's worth buying there at the minute?

Give me a 'C', give me a 'U', give me a 'P', give me an 'S', what does it spell? Overdraft! :D

I think at the moment you should look at
1 nest of boxes
2 spider pen
3 critical mass (not new but very nice)

er other than that ask the guys in there as they will always help anyway
let us know what you decide on! and have fun

Gonna definitely buy the Spider Pen today. Can't wait to see them demo it. Will let you all know how I get on. Oh, and if anyone sees this before 10am (that's when I'm off to London), do they sell refills for the pena coin? I really have little patience for rubber gloves, so thought I might take the opportunity to get a couple sheets while I'm there.

How about the original question then?

Symbology with its 52 cards and four suits? Or Beyond ESP 2 with two different coloured packs plus gaff cards?

The answer to the Symbology vs Beyond ESP question can only be answered by you. There is no 'right' answer.

I've written a very detailed review of the former and bananafish added some extra comments. The latter has had very favourable reviews. It can do some things Symbology cannot (like having three wavy lines and not looking like a deck of cards), but Symbology offers a load of options.

When there's a choice between two good effects like this, I'm sure you'll do what most of us do. We sit down somewhere quiet and peaceful with two sheets of blank paper, carefully consider and list the pros and cons of each item, ask ourselves very carefully exactly who would we be performing them to, how would they fit in with any existing effects, how would they flow and follow on from other items in a routine etc. This can take a while so be patient with yourself then, having finished listing these aspects, we take each piece of paper, tear them into tiny little pieces, say the magic word 'ohsodditt' and go buy both effects.
