Electricity in Canada

Postby nameless » May 13th, '09, 19:02

In just over a week I'll be off to Toronto in Canada.

When I'm there I'll need to charge a few things, namely my iPod, shaver, phone and camera batteries.

I've been told that their electricity is 110 volts. The labels on these things all say 100 - 240 volts, and I've also been told it'll be okay to charge these things without blowing stuff up. (Using an adapter to the plugs will fit of course).

Is there anyone around here with knowledge that can back up this advice?

Also, I've been looking for magical stuff to do when I'm there. I've found a couple of shops, but does anyone know any places I might be able to see some magic or anything like that?

I'll probably head to Niagara Falls when I'm there, so if you know of anything around that area, do tell. I heard there was a Houdini museum, but it apparently burned down years ago :(

Thanks ...

I suppose it depends on which parts of Canada you're visiting, Mark Lewis and Bananafish have both mentioned Canadian Magic shops etc but you'll need to use the Search function to find the details. Have a great trip!

There is no need to worry about your electrical devices. Most will work. The odd one mightn't, but it won't be damaged by the different voltage.

As a Canadian, I have NEVER once heard someone say "aboot". We all say "about". Darn Canadian stereotypes.

Canadians just don't realise that they say aboot.

I have known half a dozen Canadians and all of them say or said "aboot" and didn't realise it.

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

In Scotland they say "aboot" a hell of a lot more than they do in Canada.
There are indeed two magic shops in Toronto and they are terribly well stocked. I have often thought that Toronto magicians have no idea how lucky they are. Magic shops in Britain are a disgrace in comparison. And you will rub your hands with glee at the prices over here.

There is a BIG magic scene in Toronto. Once you get into the magic shops just ask what is going on. There is plenty. There are two magic clubs in the city (naturally full of incompetents as there are the world over) and various shows such as Friday Night Magic where I sometimes perform myself.

In Niagara Falls there is the Greg Frewin theatre which hosts the Greg Frewin Magic Show. By all accounts it is worth seeing.

You won't be short of magic goings on in Toronto.
