Yep. It matters not a jot how many posts someone has made; access to restricted forums is granted by a mod and is not an automatic privilege based on post count. So they can post as many "welcomes" as they want. If they think that will get them in, then they are very mistaken!

Slightly off topic here but there are one or two very well known 'names' in Magic who have been refused access to the Restricted Areas !

Hmm, I don't agree. For one thing, doesn't this assume newcomers to the forum are new to magic and have nothing to say worth listening to? Secondly, surely a novice perspective of a trick, effect, DVD or whatever is as valuable as the expert? Wouldn't fresh eyes on an effect be useful to you? I don't understand your reasoning. Just playing devils advocate!

FairieSnuff was right when they talked about feeling isolated as a noob. I lurked here for a long time before joining. This is a very friendly place compared to some magic forums I've encountered (and NOT bothered joining!). But, to join and then try to figure out what to contribute as a newcomer to this forum AND a novice in magic is very daunting in some respects.

I'm not suggesting for one moment that talkmagic is in any way elitist, but it took me a while to think, stuff it, I'm going to post my opinion about an effect or two and see what happens. I probably know less than 1% about magic than many here, but you've got to start somewhere!

I disagree with this "Children (read: Newbies) should be seen, not heard" policy, being enforced in this topic.

Couldn't agree more, Fairie! As of now, I actually limit my greetings mainly to non-English-speaking members, as I can manage 7 languages fairly well and know a few words in a some more languages, trying to make those members feeling welcome here as well...

(I managed a Youth Hostel for a few years some years back and learned to say hello and welcome in quite a few languages. Greeting people in their own language always gave a big smile and friendly attitude.)

I was just playing the devils advocate. I wasn't advocating implementing it though, just pointing out that newcomers can do plenty of silly things elsewhere on the forum other than the introductions. My thinking was more to prevent people coming on to post reviews of products they are involved in. Having people posting in the introductions makes for a friendly welcome and I see no reason to limit it.

I am not sure where I stand on this as I have always posted hellos and still do, not for any reason then to say hello!
I might go through stages where all I post is hello, but still am an active member as I read all the posts just have no comment or input to them.
