I'd email him for the refund, and if you don't get it, leave feedback as positive but comment something like "item received but not posted special delivery as advertised" and knock a few stars off the P&P rating.

He's a chuff though - it's his own money he's risking, as presumably eBay would force him to stump up the difference if it went missing. Is that really worth pocketing an extra £4 for?!

It would be excellent. Put him in the spotlight and make him squirm.

I was going to reply with a comedy "Well I think you're pretty Beardy", but that is a far better idea.

That would teach him a costly lesson. And all because he wanted to save £4.

But it was sent recorded, just not insured, although I think it recorded does have an insured value even if it's only £30 -50 or so. He can also claim that the cost is for postage and packing, that includes postage costs, package costs and expenses incurred in the delivery. Saying that I'm not condoning people making extra cash on the back of ebay sales, I've been stung myself that way  , and £4 is excessive for packing costs. Nowadays, I include the postage cost and the bid value when I judge if it's worth what I'm paying, it's the only way to judge, just the same as buying new, some online stores are £1 -2 cheaper than others on some items, but charge £3 more in delivery costs...... You pays your money and takes your choice.

I think the problem here is that you paid for postage and packing.

As well as the cost of the stamps themselves, they also need to buy the jiffy bag the item is sent in.

Plus, many sellers argue that they should be allowed to take a fee for stuffing your order into a jiffy bag and walking it to the post office. Whether that's justified or not depends on your point of view (and how often you sell things mail order).

But I'd definitely factor in the packaging and then decide how much of a killing this person has made.

Of course, the important issue here is the one of insurance. At least being recorded, there would be a record of delivery, meaning that there'll be no argument if the parcel never shows up. That's one form of insurance (although I think UK law still favours the buyer when uninsured mailorder items go astray).

I know that's no help at all, but I felt the urge to type something.
