Theres nothing we can do, its all on you.
Why did you buy it if you wanted the female? Something you probably should have checked out first.
Either see if you can return it for a refund or exchange. See if he cant order you in a female voice.

the problem here lies with the original producer

it is my understanding that the original script for vanishing bandana, the cassette tape release, was read by a woman, but when they updated it for cd release, they tweaked the script a little changed it and had it read by a bloke. I own both versions and to be honest IMHO the first is far superior, giving better delays and silences thereby allowing for more facial expressions and greater comedy.

So my advice would be look in the second hand magic market and ask for the tape version

Do like most everyone else that's owned the thing and simply re-record it. There's tons of FREE audio software out there that can help you change the voice, diction, accents, etc. just look around.

The first thing that came into my mind would be to ask a female friend (with a pleasant voice) to re-record it.

Its a terrible effect. I look on it as the magicians version of the clown nose.
People think you become funny just by puting it on.

I'm with Dale. It is lazy magic. There are so many better routines out there.

I disagree. Most lay people have never seen it before and it always gets great laughs all the way through, with a nice surprise ending.

We're in the business of entertaining our audience - it doesn't have to be strong, sleight filled magic.

I have seen greats like Pete McCahon and Mark Shortland perform the vanishing coke bottle which, in my opinion, is also 'lazy' magic - but is still entertaining for lay people

maybe so... but this thing doesn't give any scope for the performer to add anything. and it's based on a non pun. who calls a scarf a bandanna?

"Bandanna" (or "bandana") is the usual word in the US for a large square of fabric used as a scarf, headband, or handkerchief.

and in bolton?

my point is, the patter doesnt connect with audiences in countries that dont use the word bandana.

it wouldnt be so bad a trick, if people found a different couple of objects.

Well, yes. It works well in the US, not so well in the UK, and not at all in, say, France or Germany.

The problem for translation is that in the bandana-banana pair, not only do we have one eminently foldable thing and one not at all foldable thing, but also the word "banana" is inherently funny in English.
