magicworldonline.com - Is this site ok?

Postby Wishmaster » May 25th, '09, 20:11

Hi all,

I quite often see magicworldonline.com listed near the top of a Google search page when I'm looking for prices for things. But, I've never visited because Google gives a warning that this site may install some kind of malware on your PC. The warning page can be seen here:

http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diag ... %3D1&hl=en

Does anyone here know the company or why this warning has been shown? Is it a false positive? I'm not going to visit or pass my credit card details until I'm 100% sure it's safe.

The sad thing is that if this is a reputable business, a warning like the one from Google will lose them sales and trust. I can't even risk visiting to get contact details in order to let them know about this.

Cheers,
Wishmaster

I just went there because I'm brave and foolish. There is a virus on there for sure, which my security blocked. Stay well clear!

Yes, you are braver than me Queen of Clubs.

I was going to have a look using Linux, but realised that any virus attached to the site wouldn't have any effect anyway. Which is a bit worrying if Linux (and presumably Mac) users are handing over credit card and personal details over to a site that may or may not be compromised.

Welcome to my world :)

You're right, it's worrying, but thankfully things are improving. The latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox have features which warn you if sites contain viruses or are phishing for your data

Just remember, only buy from dealers you trust (does the site have contact details? Is it a brand you know?), and use credit card or paypal where payments are covered and you are more likely to see your money back

Hi all,

It's the owner of Magicworldonline.com here.

Hope u guys are alright.

I apologise for you finding a virus online... I was notified about it recently and immediately removed it.

It wasn't a virus but more a malicious bit of script a hacker managed to somehow get onto the system which brings up popups etc.

I have since taken every security measure available to update this, and stop it from happening again.

I have also contacted google who listed my site as having this script on... and they have since reviewed my website and deemed it safe once again!

There is a lot of this malicious scripts going around at the moment, and it's getting ever harder to keep them out.

But I can now DEFINITELY say it's 100% safe to visit now, and I will be keeping a very close eye on things in the future to make sure it stays safe... Just to put minds at ease, the payment section is 100% safe, as you are redirected outside of magicworld to NETBANX a secure online banking company like Natwest that take payments 100% security and safely.

again apologies and all the best

Anthony

He's right, you know. It's now all fixed.

The next step would be to remove that irritating and unwelcome subscription box that floats in from left of screen on every other page, making me want to do anything other than subscribe to the newsletter!
