Smaller bicycles (or other cards)

Postby Famuus » May 30th, '09, 13:26

hy

I am doing magic for about a year now and now i have a little problem. I know you guys are going to say 'OH no another one with that complaint'. But I'm gonna say it anyway. My hands are damn small. They are not just small but they are VERRY small. Now i admid that in some cases i even have an advantage over other people. My big fingers don't get in the way 'n stuff. But for some slieghts with cards it can be a dissadvantage. So here's my question.

Are there 'good qualitie' cards that are a little smaller. And i am not talking about those tiny little dwarf bycicle thingies. I want them to look normal but be like a LITTLE bit smaller than the poker sized bycicles.

Any suggestions ????

you can always use bridge sized bicycle cards. The only problem is that you can't find that many gaffs in bridge size.

What sleights do you have problems with ?

Personally I'd suggest perseverence rather than trying to find a different sized card. When I started having guitar lessons I wanted to get a smaller guitar because I was having trouble with some chords, but my teacher talked me out of it, and thank God he did, because otherwise I'd now not be able to play a guitar, I'd only be able to play a toy.

Same with card magic. If you use an unusual card then what are you going to do when someone hands you their own, normal deck and says "I hear you're a magician, I'd love to see a trick"?

I can only echo queenie's advice. Sleights and other handling issues can always be overcome with persistence and adapting your technique to suit. My hands are average-sized (whatever that means) and I have learnt to adapt many card sleights because I cannot perform them as per text book instructions. It's all part of the learning process.

P.S. You should see queenie with a ukelele. Her skill is legendary. ;)

I have problems palming, too. So I never do it. It's not stopped me so far ;)
