New England - question for our American friends

Postby themagicwand » May 31st, '09, 23:37

I'd always assumed that New England was one of the 50 states. Now I discover that there is no state called New England! Would I therefore be right in assuming that New England is a title given to cover several states around the Hampshire area??

I just answered my own question! Yes, it is. New England is in fact Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Thank you Wikipedia!

It's also a splendid song by Billy Bragg, but done even better by the late, genuinely great Kirsty McColl.

...And it's also a song by the equally wonderful Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers.

So the question is, when are you leaving Old England to join us over here?

Mr. Roni is heading out in a week or two, just jump into one of his suit cases
