From the makers of "Sightless Vision" now comes "Earless Listening".

Effect: The spectator says a word while your ears are completely sealed. Also included is "Noseless Smelling" (aka Right Under Their Noses). Some world-renowned performers have built entire careers on these well-guarded secret. Two sure-fire routines guaranteed to fool them all. Comes with instructions and that special gimmick.

Order now and receive the booklet "Mindless Mentalism" for free.

I think I've just stumbled upon the future of mentalism :p

A trick used by shut-eye mediums on ghost walks is to have a volunteer stand in the middle of a circle and put her hands over her ears. The medium then asks the "spirits" to touch the volunteer somehwere (BINGO!), eg knee, shoulder, face. Then the volunteer puts her hands by her sides and the whole group stands in silence (and preferably the dark too) for a minute or two. Then the volunteer is asked if she felt being touched anywhere. The idea is that the volunteer says she's been touched in the same place as the medium asked the spirits to touch her.

Sadly it rarely works as you can imagine. Only 50% of the time does someone report actually being touched, of the remaining 50% the phenomena is reported usually around the shoulders, neck or back. If it hits, great! But usually it doesn't hit and one has to hurridly move on.

Would be easy to "fake" though. I imagine.

If you're after comedy and impossibility then get a copy of INTUITIONAL SIGHT by Eddie Joseph. When I did the Dough Blindfold bit years ago (it was one of my first blindfolds in fact) it was for sake of comedy during the get-ready phase more than the effect (I was still thinking like a magician, rather than a mentalist :? ) Understand however, it's MESSY! You end up with sticky dough, flour, water, etc. all over the place, but damn if it doesn't bring the house down when you have the guts to just go for it.

I've used my own gaffed bag in conjunction with the original Steel Mask system put out by Gene Marvin prior to its more recent incarnation... I also use the Mardi Grais mask from Bob Cassidy's arsenal which works exceptionally well.

Today I simply use a standard sleeping mask I paid $4.00 for at the local drug store... but let me explain why...

Glen Falkenstein pointed this out long ago, it just took me a decade or so to let it sink in... I'm a Mentalist NOT a Magician.

What's that got to do with it? You ask

Magicians are constantly trying to "prove" impossibility along side "innocence" -- everything is on the up and up.

If we work from the question "What would it look like if a real psychic were doing it?" the only answer you get is that they would borrow a couple of handkerchiefs, use a bandanna or two, or simply pull out an eye pillow. There wouldn't be yards of gauze, medical tape, duct tape, aluminum foil, and all the other trimmings they would, as the Nike commercials state, "Just Do It!"

It might sound like nit picking or even arrogance in the mind of some, but it does force us to ask "WHY" all the junk is so important when it would not be used by the "real thing" but only those out to prove a point... people that are running without being chased.

Think about it.

Good point.

But, if you take along a simple sleeping mask for the purpose, wouldn't it make sense to pack a trick blindfold instead? In that situation, I can't see any advantage in using an innocent one.
