Seriously though, please introduce yourself as a magician first. Let them form an opinion on you before you launch into a barrage of tricks. If somebody tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I'd ever seen an ID then pulled a red ball from behind my ear - and they weren't my drunken uncle - I'd find that extremely rude and the magician would then have to work doubly hard to win me over.

Ok guys you made that point now, other marks ?

I guess we're writing about differences in cultures. In Holland (and Belgium: I'm in Belgium multiple times per year), it's no strange thing to tap someone you don't know on the shoulder. Thinking about it, it's actually quite normal here.

Though in my opinion it's better - as an entertainer - to just introduce yourself as that entertainer first.

I think that the 'ID' patter for the ID is used by too many people. Maybe you could spice up the routine a bit ? If there are many magicians in your area, many people would've probably experienced the ID before.

My ID routine is blown up to look like a huge mental miracle, and I see to it that not one spectator stops feeling the curiosity/excitement for even a second.

I think Bill Malone has a great presentation of the ID on his On The Loose series, if I'm not mistaken. Check it out..

Ok thx for the good (and some off-topic) reactions.

I should introduce myself better, that's true. This is really only an intro and on the rest of the routine i will be doing some typical close up magic. I'm thinking of crazy mans handcuff, the 4 aces, Stigmata,....

I don't think people have seen the ID that ofthen in my area. I never met somebody who did.

My ID presentation lasts for a good few minutes, the deck is put on the table and then i go into a whole "clear your mind of all distractions" etc and the reveal is quite slow.

It's a miracle rather than a quick trick.

Well sometimes it takes several minutes with me to. I always look at the mood of the spectator.

Usually the ID is my last effect, but if I pop it in the middle, I usually do Gemini Twins after it, because of the complete fairness of the effect. An ID switch further drills in the effect of the ID, and I get heightened reactions from the spectators.
