Any other Lulu users had one of these?

Postby Tomo » May 27th, '09, 12:05

Just received this in an email. The headers show it's legit:
lulu.com wrote:Dear Lulu Author,

Congratulations, your book has been selected for listing on Amazon.com's Marketplace! As a result, your book will now be easily found on the world's largest online bookseller.

There will be some differences between your listing on Lulu and your listing on Amazon. Amazon charges a fee to list your book, and in order to cover that cost your book will be listed with a 30% markup; however your royalty will remain the same, and your book's price on Lulu will not change. Furthermore, your book sales on Amazon will reflect in your Lulu account immediately.

Lulu is committed to helping you increase your book's sales and we hope you enjoy the benefits of listing your book on Amazon.com.

Kind regards,

Lulu

Anyone else had one? If not, I'm guessing it's either because I was part of a marketing push last year to local media through Lulu's PR company, or because Naked Mentalism is still floating around the 300 mark in the overall Lulu sales chart. Anyway, if you do get one, go for it.

Neither do I. I'm assuming it's to cover the cost of the ISBN.

One explanation might be that Amazon is trusted by more people, it has a well-established and particularly generous returns policy, it (used to) deliver via royal mail, one less organisation to spew out your credentials to. These reasons mean that I, being a paranoid old goat, tend to use it in preference to other online retailers or, gawd forbid, ebay. I might be tempted to pay it if I weren't waiting for an opportunity to pay Tomo in cash so he can sign my copy ...

You mean Tomo is starting to charge people to sign their copies now? Blimey, he gets his book on Amazon and it all gets to his head!

Getting listed on Amazon has got to be a sign of success. Well done.

not in my case Tony - i've only sold one hard copy of The Games People Play, but have sold a fair few in ebook format...

i'd laugh if they think mine's the therapy book...

That's nice. They've dropped the grotesque 30% markup.

Congrats Tomo,

I was the guy that bought it and said, "You should check into Amazon." It looks like Amazon is going to check into you :)

Congrats to you Ian :)

I'd ask Tomo for a refund so I could buy the kindle addition but I somehow think he would refrain ;)
