Goeiedag (=hello) from Belgium

Postby Bart Nijs » May 26th, '09, 22:16

Hi All,
I am Bart Nijs, a belgian magician, performing since around 1980. I have mainly been performing for children but I am moving on now and concentrating more on mentalism. I still love performing for children, but I needed an new challenge.
I want to put all my old props in boxes and start all over again. That is what mentalism should do for me.
I understand Docc Hillford started as a children's entertainer too, so I guess it could work for me as well.
I have been reading intensivly the last few months and an working on a mentalism only program. Yes, I have performed mentalism demonstrations at weddings and other occasions, but I was booked as a magician. I hope to be booked as a mentalist in the near future.

I'm from Leuven originaly, but to make things short, I'm from Hannuit, Ghent and Lokeren. I am a member of the Magic Cirkel in Ghent, of Halcadabra in Brussels and of De Kleine Joker in Leuven. :)

A very warm welcome to TM, Bart. I like your chocolate. Very much. A bit too much, actually. My jeans no longer do up.

Check out my sig for lots and lots of tempting reviews. Enjoy.

The best advice I can give you is read, absorb and study. I could tell you where to look and what books to read but in this topic: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic11429.php the basics are certainly more than covered.

Books I always have within reach:
-13 steps (Corinda)
-Psychological Subtelties (Banachek)
-The Nail Wr****r Anthology (e-book by Thomas Baxter)
-Switchcraft (e-book by Elliot J. Bresler)
and many more

Dvd's I like:
-Master Billet Course dvd set (Allen Zingg)
-Osterlinds Mind Mysteries
-Marc Spelmann's Collection

And don't be affraid to try stuff and fail once in a while. And what I have learned the hard way, but what every mentalist will tell you: choose to be a mentalist. Forget being a magician. Please don't be a magician doing mental magic.

English is not my native language, so forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes.
