Magician Friendly Jacket

Postby crozboz » Jun 11th, '09, 02:29

OK, So I'm going over to Beijing later on in the summer (if we, the brits, can call it that?) and I'm planning on getting a tailor made suit made.

The best part about it is - if i get it made all to my specifications - I can make it perfectly magician friendly.

Any contributing ideas? I dont want to get back and think - damn, why didn't I ask for this? I should have asked for that etc.

The List So Far:
- Slightly bigger sleeves (not so much a layman notices)
- No lining in the sleeves (anyone who sleeves pens knows these can be a problem)
- More pockets (any ideas here?)
- ITR Anchor points?
- A slit between the top and inside breast pocket - Carl Cloutiers Spectaor's broken glasses repaired in case in inside pocket)
- built in topit?
- built in splash bottle?
- sewn in magnets?

any other ideas? any of these you think are bad ideas?

Cheers!
All the best,
Croz

Becareful with sewn in magnets, I tried sewing magnets into the hem of a skirt once. Fine until I was standing at the bar and the magnets got attrracted to the keys in some guys pocket, very very embarassing.

If you do have magnets sewn in, make sure that they're removable, strong magents and washing machines don't get on all that well together.

you need to look up magicians pockets. I seam to remember there being something in nelms, but im not sure.
ignoring the tail pockets, ( unless you are thinking of a frock coat ) you might find that a couple of extra pockets in the trousers could be usefull.
behind the thigh.
this way you could ditch small items, with the jacket off.

a smal coin pocket within the sleve, might be usefull, because you can then jingle coins in an empty hand.

likewise a pocket in the sleve, which can hold a deck of cards, will mean you can sleve , without the object slipping down to the elbow if you raise your hands. :)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I'm glad you took my advice on the tailored suit!

I'd only get the toppit and some sleeve pockets. I wouldn't worry about the rest, particularly the magnets

Most importantly...make sure it looks nice! Well fitted and well made.

if the sleeves finish where the rest of the jacket finishes, you could add hold-outs/removable magnets there, and use it as a ditch/swopping area..

I had extra pockets made in my suit. Next time we meet up you can have a look if you want ;) (innuendo alert!)

I got a suit made last year in Nepal. I would agree that the chief thing is to make sure you get a nice suit, and something distinctive. I got a white silk suit, which I find gets a good reaction. Despite being a fat and relatively unattractive man, I look good in the white suit, waistcoat and cravat.
The only modifications I made were to make all the pockets loose, and to ensure there were no flaps on the pockets. I found that enough. Don't go too fancy.
And prices are good; get two of them.
