Old portrait photographs

Postby themagicwand » Jun 13th, '09, 13:23

Does anyone has a resource for buying loads of old portrait photos - preferably late Victorian early 20th Century??

I'm sure there must be somewhere to buy these by the dozen, but a quick Google yielded little.

Swap Meets, Flea Markets, Antique Dealers... but you knew that already

Do a search for era photos, I've been collecting tons of images of late, some of them are for sale. One of my recent eBay purchases was a Newspaper featuring headlines from the St. Valentine's Day Massacre which I'm confident, will work well with a story somewhere along the line.

Postcard fayres? I can't say for certain, but was wondering about this myself recently. Might be handy, too, should you need to get a number of images that are all the same size.

as others have said, ebay. but dont search for old victorian photographs. the correct name for the things your after is a cabinet card, or a visiting card.

The victorians loved to give away these images, and because each card had the photograpers adress on them, they came reasonably cheep, because they were seen as advertisement for thr photographer.
i was searching for just the same thing the other day, and came across people selling them in lots of 20, for as little as 15 quid.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

though, you should still search for victorian photographs - cos a lot of people that sell stuff on ebay dont know how to categories things properly...

so search for both terms...

there's lots of magic stuff out there on ebay thats sold under some very unusual spellings...
