AH-HA! by David Harkey and Eric Anderson

Postby Ian The Magic-Ian » May 14th, '09, 22:57

I purchased an old (and when I say old I mean twenty years) Genii magazine at a convention I attended in November. It is about David Harkey and has a couple tricks by him in it that are very unique and in my opinion just great. One of them involves making a branch grow from a seed and pluck an orange or apple on it with no cover and in a very fair manner.

I looked for some effects by David Harkey and he created a book with Eric Anderson of close-up effects that don't involve cards, coins or the normal tools such as ropes or other commonly used items. This is something I've been looking for for a while because an entire show made up of card tricks can get rather dull.

In short, will this book deliver on my hope for a book that allows me to create a close up show with unusual effects such as the tree branch effect? Or are the effects in here impractical?

Just wondering if anyone owns this book.

Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

This book is a collection of miscellaneous effects. However, some effects do involve cards, and there is one effect with coins too. I highly recommend this book.

Also, don't forget to add on Harkey On Video , which explores hidden properties of everyday objects to amaze with seemingly impromptu miracles.

I've had a lot of fun performing effects from both these sources. A true gift for any close-up artist.
