My favourite Michael Jackson moment was at the Brits, when he went all Messiah-like. Jarvis Cocker invaded the stage and waggled his bottom at him. He then got arrested and charged with 'upsetting Michael Jackson'.

Interestingly, that was also Jarvis Cocker's greatest moment. :)

As for Jacko himself, I just find it sad that the celebrity side became more important than the music - to a point where the music became amost disposable next to the hype.

I know someone who worked with the Jackson Five when they went out on tour, and he has very severe things to say about Jackson's dad (which I won't repeat here, cos I'm a coward). But given the upbringing, it's no surprise to me that he chose to live in Neverland. :(

I saw Pulp in Manchester that Friday night. Between songs, Cocker took a swig from a water bottle, held it up, and said: "See that, right? That's going to stay water because I don't think I'm Jesus." He got a HUGE - and in my opinion very well-deserved - cheer.

i saw Jackson twice.
once live at wembly.. the magic content was very high, and the atmosphere was unique.
the second time, was at siegfried and roy.
he wrote and recorderd their theme tune, and the day i was there... he turned up.
In person he had a great presense. And i suspect he would of made a very good mentalist.

but his private life... dont get me started on that.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I'm almost at the point of putting a tenner on the cause of death being a cocaine-induced heart attack.

I with you there Tomo, the whole thing is odd...it all seems a little to convinient that he was never gonna do the shows to start with....

His "death" means he can nicely drift away and retire in some secluded part of the world, with millions of pounds stashed away, to live out his life not in the public eye...that or the cocaine theory...

Nah. He just died. There may be other factors involved - painkillers, sleeping tablets of various kinds etc - but I don't think he's sneaked out the back door and gone to live on a desert island. Don't forget - the man was skint. And all the money from O2 ticket sales will have to be returned.

Too much surgery, too many drugs, unhealthy lifestyle, stress and age. He was probably a disaster waiting to happen for years.

After Thriller, he didn't produce anything of interest to me and I never bought another of his albums. He's left a hell of a legacy for millions of other people though. Every credit to the guy!

I see Uri Geller's making a cheap and genuinely ugly attempt to trade in the death of his "friend"

Already?! He could have waited at least 24hrs! It doesn't take long for the vultures to begin circling. It's so nice to be anonymous. I wouldn't trade that for any money.

Wasn't Jackson a bit of an amateur magician?
I'm sure I read that somewhere, a long time ago.

He was obsessed with magic, apparently. And loved to have magicians around him. I don't know if he ever did any magic, though.

Love him or loath him (I'm inclined towards the latter category) the man was clearly very talented. As someone else mentioned, I am as sad today as I was when Jade Goody died; that is, not very. I find it difficult to get distressed over the death of someone I never knew; if a family member, a friend or even a colleague died, then that would obviously be very different. But a celebrity? Nah. Even when Diana died I was somewhat nonchalant; I'm not saying it wasn't a shock to hear of her death (it was), but I didn't join the rest of the country in a mass outpouring of grief. She was a complete stranger to me but each to their own.

I don't think that's necessarily fair. If you look at the vast number of comments that have been printed in the press, it's obvious that the world's press are pestering anyone and everyone that had a connection to Michael Jackson.

And, for the UK press, Geller's right on their doorstep.

Not to mention the fact that Uri Geller handled jackson's PR in the UK at one time, so his name's going to be quite near the top of the list.
