Hi
I am Wolflock from South Africa and I believe that everything below would tell you about me.
Let us know more about you?
My father (Not a magician) showed me a coin trick and a card trick when I was 6 years of age. He would not tell me how it was done. I had to figure it out for myself. By age 8, I had figured them out. The bug bit me and I got lots of beginners' books and learned what I could. By age 10 I was performing for friends parties. I have never looked back since.
Nickname was given to me by a friend in Primary school (I think you call it Junior High in USA). I adore wolves and werewolves. And since I was doing magic tricks from that early age, my friends, instead of calling me a Warlock (Male witch), called me Wolflock. The nickname has stuck ever since.
I am a Member of the Cape Magic Circle in Cape Town and have been performing magic for 18 Years (since age 10) I am also an Escapologist for 10 Years and am the only true escapologist in South Africa. Gimmicked equipment, keys or picks not used for escapes (although I can pick locks). I do not do escapes from boxes (unless asked to do this - Magic) etc. because that is illusion and not escapology, technically speaking. I escape from any standard Handcuffs, Cable ties, straitjackets, chain and padlocks, thumb cuffs, rope, duct tape, and anything else that the spectators would like to provide for me to escape from. Yes, they get to bring their own equipment and get to search me before the escape.
In Magic, I do close up, Stage, Table hopping, using anything and everything I can to do tricks: Coins, silks, ropes, cards, etc.
I have done a few shows on South African TV, but do mostly Table Hopping in restaurants, Children's Parties and Adult Private Functions.
18 Years - Magic (and still loving every minute of it)
10 Years - Escapology (and still healing every minute)
What would you like to see in regards to the Magic community?
Magicians helping each other and not trying to always show each other up or better each other.
MORE BOOKS. DVD's are nice and visual, but I have taught myself from the beginning from books.
More magicians doing more charitable work.
More magicians following the old and honorable code of magicians. We need more decent people in this world and I believe as magicians we could teach that to the general public. If only I could find the magicians now...
What would you change in the magic community?
The thought process of magicians who are in this for fame and fortune and do not have a passion for magic. Also Beginners who do not practice enough and therefore mess up brilliant tricks that many magicians have practiced for years to perfect. Also Idiot magicians who expose tricks, thinking they are Soooo Clever, and destroying the effect and magic that we try to bring to peoples otherwise ordinary lives.
Favorite Saying?
The things you regret the most in life, are the risks which you never take.
