Knockoffs be Aware

magic_fakers

Above is a website by Tim Ellis, to help people understand who the original creators of some various effects were. This is to hopefully stop people buying the rip off versions, and give some credit to the REAL creators.

The main one I saw was the "Crushed and Cured Cola" which is a direct rip-off of Anders Moden's "Healed and Sealed". As you know there are many knockoffs of original effects that were taken without permission and without any improvements.

This is just an alert really, to let you know what various companies are doing to small creators who dont have enough time and money to take legal action.
Please keep it in mind when shopping around

Thank you - an excellent and thought provoking site. I see items from my collection on both sides of the screen!

Worryingly, all my stuff came from the 'usual' well-known and reputable suppliers who are mentioned time and time again here as being OK. This sounds like a case of 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone' so I'm saying nothing!

I agree with the site to a degree - but with some of it I think they're going too far - like the coloring in book, ITR. I'm surprised they haven't included the ID, the svengali deck etc.

It's the reason I never join in the bashing of certain sites and or people on ethical grounds as looking at my collection I'd be a major hypocrite.

I agree with the you taneous, while I agree with the site in principle they go a bit too far.......The Elmsley Count......Alex Elmsley......who else would have invented it....I ask you! The Downs Palm........Nelson T Downs........who else would have invented that and who would have the nerve to credit these to anyone else but the original!

Well, they did include the Menetekel-Deck.

But the "Golden 3 shell game"??? That's really a little absurd. They could have investigated who invented Cups & Balls a few millenia ago and then complain about all three million rip-offs since then. :x
