vanishing a lighter

Postby blamejoe » Feb 25th, '05, 00:37

Ok, so it hasn't been long since I've joined this site, but already I've gotten 'decent' at vanishing a silver ring using a torniquet pass. I am now trying to figure the best method to use for vanishing a lighter and other found, handsized items. I prefer not to use gimmicks if I can avoid it. Any suggestions on how to make these larger items disappear in the palm of my hand?

Would you consider using a handkerchief? I do know of a few methods with this......as well, an exellent tool is a "Topit" you can make almost anything of hand-held size disappear with ease!

thanks for the reply. I would utilize a handkerchief, as long as no preps need to be made. Typically, the items I want to vanish, or levitate, or whatever I eventually learn to do with them, will include items like a lighter, a coin, a ring, a cigarette, keys, etc etc etc... common handy items. Pencils, paperclips, rubberbands. You know stuff you could find around an office. Although I do want to work on a trick using a poolstick and/or poolballs, for my dad, but that's a different topic I guess.

I will look into a topit supplier and see if I can find such a thing. Hopefully it is something I can keep with me. Thanks again for the tips!

Topits and sleeving

Postby kardtrik » Mar 2nd, '05, 23:27

No close up magician should be without a TT (or do you Brits call them Vuarnets?) or a topit. Don't only look in to it, get one in every jacket you own. onc eyou learn to use it, you can make just about anything dissappear.

Mike Ammar is the king of the topit and has several videos out on the subject.

Also, Carl Cloutier uses a topit extremely well and has several videos out. He is also a master of sleeving, which is my method for vanishing a lighter---I do a bit with a lighter and cigarette that is just retention passes and sleeving.

We're magicians. Don't forget about those sleeves! They can make magic happen.

Yeah....like kardtrik said "No close up magician should be without a TT (or do you Brits call them Vuarnets?) or a topit. Don't only look in to it, get one in every jacket you own. onc eyou learn to use it, you can make just about anything dissappear."

You will learn to love it, and yes it would work well for pool balls![/quote]

In answer to the question, we call them TT's - it's easier than anything else!

mandrake, unless i missed something a tt is used to vanish cigaretes and change notes and such, wereas a topit is a utility device for vanishing incoporated into a jacket. :?: :?:

topits are excelent for a lot of routines especialy were a clean visual vanish is required and topits can also be used for apearences / hank loads.

iv'e yet to see a lighter vanished with a tt.

yours confused as always jason :?

True - I was just saying that we use 'TT' rather than 'Vuarnet'. I saw a few topit variations last weekend and the little grey cells are working overtime on a possibilty which I think may not have been fully explored before. Or I could be wrong - again!

lighter b gone

Postby kardtrik » Mar 4th, '05, 08:37

Something I forgot to add....

This is hardly impromptu, but---I'm new here and not sure what I can say and not say. I'll try to put this as vaguely as possible.

You can have a lighter of your own that you intend to vanish. Let's say that this lighter is a part of you, and that the further away from your body it is, the more quickly it wants to pull back to you.

To vanish a lighter, you can either use the same kind of sleights as for Cigaretts (and use a basic Th**b palm or other concealment). Especially if you are performing a Cigarette / Lighter ROUTINE, (i like to change my cigarette into a lighter, and then reproduce the cigarette in my mouth, for example... )
But of course, If you just want to vanish a lighter or any object, the TT is what you need.
Like others have said, a TT is a "gimmick" that, once you know about it, you'll wear it every wear, even if you donot intend to perform. (It's like spider man, with his Costume ready to go always on him !!!) lol

See ya

and furthermore--

Postby kardtrik » Mar 8th, '05, 08:22

The first thign that I ever sleeved was a lighter. If you've never played with sleeving, you should, and you'll also find that a lighter is one of the most sleeve friendly objects you wil ever come across.

A simple retention pass, followed by a snap up the sleeve--BOOM!--barehanded miracle!
