Derren card trick

About 9 mins in. The Open Prediction trick, the second phase where the guy deals them down and gives one to Derren...beautiful!

It's one of the only effects I can really remember Derren not editing about the "move."

That was a fabulous move! I love the one with woman on the zebra crossing at the start too. Class. I love Derren Brown :D

Also, what was the one handed faro type cut he did near the start of that scene (6mins 29seconds) with the cards??? I've never seen that before. Wow!

It's called the One-handed Shuffle! It's easier than you might think, really, the toughest part is actually cutting the two halves into position, though.

Lovely effect. I love the Open Prediction. One of my favourites is by Scott Guinn in his My Best To You eBook. Although, the version Derren performed was so simple, yet so deceptive! And the first phase, again, so damn simple, but so powerful, the wonders of natural misdirection, eh?

Thanks for the link!

Hi all.
The open prediction trick was brilliant. i remember seeing this programme the first time it was on and being amazed at that trick because i didn't have a clue how it was done, and it's still brilliant even though i know how it's done now. I liked Martin Freeman trying to pick the cup up and the plate of crisps. :) :)

The woman on the zebra crossing was very surreal.
I wonder how many takes they needed to find the one person who was susceptible to the instant induction or who had been hypnotised before?

Still, hats off to him. He's good. I don't think I'll volunteer to be on his programmes.

To highlight your point, watch The System if you haven't already. There's a reveal in the programme to show what he's willing to do to make an effect work (coin toss). It's quite surprising, but not really. Mind you, The System itself is incredible. I can't imagine how much time and effort went into planning and execution. Pure genius.

I still think one of the most amazing effects he did was with the horse racing journalists in The System. The one with the polaroids hanging from the ceiling and the envelopes. I can't remember how many phases there were, but my jaw hit the floor more than once. Not that I'm a big fan of Mr B or anything :D

About an hour before the show I was sat in the pub saying "i would imagine it goes like this [description of how the "system" works]... it's an old system"; and behold, i was right.
I also don't imagine for 1 second that he actually did the coin toss thing.

And that is why Derren is a genius!

OK only just got round to watching this.
I've also spent the morning watching Lennart Green, so I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing down the pub tonight!

I am Green with envy at his ability. I wouldn't like to play 'snap' with him... etc., etc...

Just watched around 8 minutes. He tries to get him to stop on the seventh card. If you look when Derren takes the "top" card the man has stopped him on, he actually takes a card much lower down the pile. Sneaky.

Watch the clip closely and with the sound up if you can. Im no expert on such matters but the bump into her leaves her open to suggestion, he then says ' Look at me ', as he's doing this he presses his foot down on to each of hers which enforces his next instruction ' You're stuck ', he then rigidly grips her shoulders to enforce this.

Not sure if you'd need to be especially susceptible, bumping into people usually leaves us looking for instruction from the ' bumper ' on how to proceed.

Anyways, the one handed shuffle is very satisfying to get right. A tip, if thou needest one, is to bend the cards vertically in the middle. It makes them knit together more easily. If you need help just send a PM.
