If you're interested, you can now download the Windows 7 evaluation copy from Microsoft. Its so much better than vista.

Yes, but the eval copy will run out. What then?

I'm sticking to XP until they finally drop support.

Me too. I keep XP for gaming and a few essential apps and use Linux for everything else. Ubuntu Netbook Edition on my Aspire is fab.

I had Vista on my new desktop for 3hrs before replacing it with XP and don't fancy being a beta tester for Microsoft's new effort. I'll wait until at least SP1 before trying it.

Actually Windows 7, even in the state it is now, is pretty damn good. I've found it to be more useful even than windows XP for some time now, so I have no problem handing out the cash for it when it finally comes out officially.

Obviously I'm not going to convince anybody with my experiences, but for now it's free to try. One of the best features about it, which the previous versions sadly lacked - is that if you do a clean install it still keeps all your files in a 'windows.old' folder. - And I had spent so long making sure I hadn't lost any pictures / videos of the little ones before I upgraded. So many wasted hours.

I've read lots of good reports from people about 7, all saying similar things to you. The most interesting one was something along the lines of...Windows 7 is Vista without all the c*** (not the best).

As XP works so well and is rock solid, I'll stick with it. It's the best OS Microsoft ever did and will be a hard act to follow. Once they work out the worst of the inevitable security flaws and exploits, driver problems and other assorted issues with 7, I will probably migrate. By the time it's that mature, I'll be due for another new computer anyway :P

It is the release candidate now, not the beta. It is free. It is good for a year.

It's the best version of windows yet.

(Although I am a Mac man, and hate windows with a passion, I must say, 7 is the best attempt yet at making an OS to compete with OSX. I wouldn't switch, but it's good).

Yeah, if I try to list the things I like about it I feel like a shill. In my experience though with microsoft, every second OS tends to be good.

Somebody mentioned Google OS. From what I hear about that, it will be very good for certain uses, but wont have the broad application of other OSs. They're focusing on, basically, getting you on the net as soon as possible.

It might have changed since I last looked, but I couldn't live without offline versions of apps and there was no mention of this, up until recently anyway. I can't imagine the OS being particularly useful if all you can run are online versions of Google apps. Not to mention, I don't trust the likes of Google with my private documents.
