The Amazing Chang
The magic of Whittington-Wickes

17 October 2009 - 10 January 2010 at the Royal Pump Rooms Museum, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

Delve into the magical world of Whittington-Wickes at this exhibition which celebrates the life and career of the famous Leamington magician.

Born in 1893 in Avenue Road, the young Samuel Lewis Webster Whittington-Wickes ran away from home at the age of 12 to pursue a career in magic. He returned years later a successful magician and wowed audiences with his spectacular shows. During his career he took a variety of stage names, finally becoming 'The Amazing Chang' in 1934. He performed in New York and Paris and toured the UK with his magic acts.

The exhibition will bring together facinating original props used in Chang's acts as well as stunning stage backdrops and promotional material reflecting the golden age of theatre during the 1930s and 40s.

As a Leamingtonian myself I can now confirm that I've been booked to perform at the grand opening on Saturday 17th October between 12 noon and 3pm where I'll be performing a range of classic parlour routines.

This is an event that is being supported by the Magic Cirlcle and as you may have read in a recent edition of the Magic Circular, a contribution is being made by David Copperfield.

It would be nice to see some of you there on the day and please wear your TM badges if you do come along so that I can spot you

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
