Anyone know anything about these?
There seem to be so many on the market. The only one I am familiar with is the springed gimmick that opens like an oyster to show a handful of fire. From what I have heard this has a reputation for being unreliable.
Can anyone recomend something that is small, relatively reliable (it's not the end of the world if it fails at times) and easy to get rid of after use.

you get what you pay for, as i found out to my cost. Avoid the cheep ones, because the flint units are utter carp.Also, the lids dont fit square, so sometimes, they dont go out.

I don't know about the UK but here in the States the units most tend to rely an are made by Mark Toifle... he don't advertise or make a big deal over his "tinkering" as he calls it, but he makes some awesome little gadgets including one of the best Lipencot Boxes going.

Marks "Fickle Fire" gimmicks are used by Lance Burton, Shimada, McBride and numerous others because they are same as well as reliable. What I always loved about them was their size; they are very small and thus, easy to steal or ditch and yet they will fill your hands with an amazing amount of flame.

The only way I know of getting in touch with Mark would be via the Magic Castle.

There used to be a product on the market called Inferno, which was quite good. It set fire to a couple of jacket, if I remember right. It was a great little device but I don't believe it is still being produced.
Some people have produced imitations, but they don't match the original.

Jim Pace made the inferno gimmick. Wonderful device but be careful I too have lit my sleeve on fire. Inferno produces a flame much like from a lighter only much bigger. Shimada type produces more of a really small bonfire type effect from the palm rather then a 'shooting flame' I like the shimada gimmick.
