Levitation...

Postby katrielalex » Mar 1st, '05, 15:10

I wanted to do a levitation-type effect - which is stronger, Hummingbird Card or Rising Card Deck? I was leaning towards the Hummingbird Card, but it got mixed reviews: some people thought that the gimmick was too obvious or difficult to conceal. Opinions?

I simply like to float a dollar bill. It is honest looking and it gets good responses.

Hi kati

I think it depends what you want to achieve

Are you looking to wow the spectator by making one of your business cards (or playing card) spin around so you can hand it out and make an impression?

Or do you want to have the spectator, having selected a card from a deck (possibly used in another routine), return it and then while holding the case have the card rise from out of the pack?

Both can be strong when performed at the right time. Personally i would go for the card rise myself. The setup is easy and i find spectators like to have the magic happen in their own hands

Hope that helped a little

Cliff

Yeah the card rise is great. I have been working on it for a bit, and am about to work it in fully. I like it.

Thanks! I will indeed go for the rising card deck.

I'd personally recomend not buying just an effect, but rather some material which teaches the principle behind them. John LeClair has some good dvd's out, so does Michael Ammar on the subject. If I remember correctly - both contain similar effects and much more - how to handle the gimmick etc. You may also want to look at something involving loops - that way you expand your options and become creative in using the gimmicks, rather than just learning one effect..

The secret to a succesful rain dance is all about timing

Levitation Effects

Postby S_adamson1 » Mar 6th, '05, 21:02

Ok so you are looking for a strong levitation effect and you are unsure of what to buy. If it were between hummingbird card and rising card i would get rising card. I have both and the reason I would chose Rising card is because it can really be done anywhere, where as the hummingbird card has bad angles and takes a lot of practice in order to not give away the gimmick. If you are looking for a good levitation effect look at the wild levitation on Penguin. But if you just want to fool around and try a few new things pick up a pack of loops. Hopes this helps for any advice or help email me at s_adamson1@hotmail.com
