I wondered why I was drawing the curtains at half past seven last night.

Ah, the equinox. The time of year when people balance eggs upright and don't bother trying to see if it works on any other days of the year.

Cheer up. Let's play "Spot the Christmas". First one to spot an advert for Christmas on telly wins, er, wins, um, ...this pen?

There's a flat in Brent Cross that has Christmas decorations up all year round. I can see the Christmas tree and tinsel every time I go past in my train.

I was in Boots the other day. They already had some of the Christmas promotions going. I think most shops wait until after Hallowe'en though.

You know it's really Christmas though when you see that same Coca Cola ad that they've been using for the last 5,000 years.

Hmmm... Are you sure? Santa? Advertising an HFSS drink?

I always think the Christmas season begins the week before the day itself, when the decorations go up. Until then, I try to ignore it, but the "on ramp" seems to get earlier and earlier.

We've still got Halloween and Bonfire Night to get through yet!

I'd like a return to the "twelve days". Much more civilised way of carrying on.

Ah, bonfire night, where we celebrate burning Catholics and dissenters.

There was a christmas song on radio 1 on Thursday; can I claim victory for this?

ok.. You want christmas signs.

two weeks ago, i started getting ready .I put up some plain white led fairy lights around a mirror in my lounge.
I happen to like the light they produce, since it feels cosy.
I also spent 2 days making christmas cards.
Ive started my christmas shopping.. ( well one down loads more to go)
I will shortly start watching my christmas movies, and i have a small santa model on my telly. A gift from my parents, in mid may.
His tummy oens up, to reveal a tiny silver nativity scene.

Its only 94 days to go by the way. In weeks, thats about 13.

Not that long.

Oh, and televison wise, The Co-op have started their christmas build up, because the music they use in the advert, is a christmas song..

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Magazines are put together well in advance, as everyone knows, so I was checking Christmas editions back in July and August. We're on New Year and Valentine's Day now.

I've already ordered my Christmas cards, but this is because I like to make them myself, so I need the extra time! Making them from kits this year because I can see that time will be rather pressing.

I'm trying to start a custom of including a CD or DVD with my cards each year, preferably a themed DVD of out-of-copyright ephemeral films. (I just love ephemeral films and have found most people seem to get a kick out of them too.) Tying them in with a Christmas deadline helps spur me on to make at least one compilation a year!

Two years ago I sent out a DVD of Chevrolet films -- they made an amazing number of good shorts in the 30s and 40s -- and that went down well. Last year I couldn't work on a DVD because Col's stepfather had recently died and everything was all over the place, so I substituted a CD of computer games instead. For this year I'm just starting to put together a DVD of "Saturday matinee" serials. Wonderfully melodramatic.
