The Magic Clown (1950s)

Postby Robbie » Sep 22nd, '09, 13:04

While doing some research in the Internet Archive of the Moving Image, I came across a couple of episodes of an early-50s kids' TV show called The Magic Clown. "Show" is almost a misnomer, as it's essentially a 15-minute commercial with just enough entertainment to keep the audience watching.

It's surprising any of it has survived at all, since it was (of course) live, and wouldn't have been considered worth filming for posterity. But there are two complete shows available, dated roughly a year apart:
The Magic Clown 1951
The Magic Clown 1952

There's also a 25-minute compilation of excerpts from various 1952 episodes:

Two different clowns. The 1951 clown does some pretty decent bits, if anything rather too sophisticated for a kids' show. The 1952 clown is a lot ...well, clownier, and depends on gimmicks.

By the way, I just about remember eating Bonomo's Turkish Taffy.

I think i shared this with Ian.. or someone else. This Clown is the reason so many people ended up with Corophobia! :)

And i doubt that two strange men would be allowed to force feed boys and girls with sweets these days.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....
