Hello All,

I did a quick search but didn't turn up any topics on the new show on BBC Three, Those that frequent the channel for Family Guy etc have no doubt spotted the adverts 13 episodes 25 Suspects 1 Killer - Harper's Island

Can i just say wow what a brilliant show, I was sceptical at first but have just finished watching the 6th episode and it's brilliant, a bit bloody in places for those that are squeamish but it's had me on the edge of my seat and I'm anxious for the next two episodes (shown on Sunday)

Has anyone else been watching it? It's got elements of the spookiness of lost without the never-ending cliff hangers, time travel and teleporting land masses.

If you haven't seen it I highly reccommend searching it out i know a few of the episodes are up on the BBC iPlayer at any rate if you want to start there.

I've been enjoying it immensely. Do take note of the episode titles -- each one is a sound-effect clue to something that happens in that episode. (So far we've had Whap, Crackle, Ka-Blam, Bang, Thwack, and Sploosh.)

With my serious facial recognition problems, it's been hard for me to keep track of all the looky-likey characters. But as time goes on and there are fewer to deal with, it's getting easier!

Agreed, I do keep getting confused by the multitude of blonde girls wandering about but they are gradually being whittled down. I'm still curious why noone is particularily worried about that creepy little girl she is clearly a mentalist with all that talk about spirits and just "knowing things" and we all know how little they can be trusted

I watched the pilot and frankly... I just didn't get into it. The pilot was this huge bad soap opera.

It had great potential too.

Glad some people are enjoying it. Were either of you put off by the first episode but converted?

I do seem to remember the pilot being quite cheesy, but the subsequent episodes have more than made up for that in my humble opinion. Maybe give it one or two more episodes and see if you get into it, we can't all like the same things after all and it may just not be up your street.

Currently I'm pretty dubious about Flash Forward, the first episode of that didn't seem too fantastic but i'll give that a few more episodes before passing judgment,

I always try and go by the rule of three, If after three episodes a programme hasn't grabbed me i'll cull it from my viewing schedule

Harper's Island was described from the beginning as "a soap opera with murders", so I was expecting some cheesy soap action in between the killings. It's more tolerable when you can expect it. Soap opera isn't my thing, but the series is getting better now as they're able to focus on the few important characters.

I've just found out that the show was filmed like a soap opera -- the cast were given their scripts one episode at a time, so they couldn't know what was coming or who was going to be bumped off next.

FlashForward is very intriguing and promises to be good. We're hoping that its concentration on character doesn't slide into soap opera, but the pilot was good enough to allow them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm hoping someone else watching Harper's Island can help me out with something in the current episode.

I have never in my life felt so thoroughly disabled with face-blindness before now!

At nearly the end of the episode, the little girl and her mother were looking through the sheriff's files. They found a file hinting that Wakefield, the serial killer, may have an accomplice. We then saw a man's photo in the file. Based on the dramatic quality of this scene, I can only assume we're supposed to recognise who the photo is of.

I have a guess as to who it might possibly be, based entirely on what would make the most dramatic sense of the following scene. But since I'm not entirely sure who was in that scene either, I'm pretty much groping in the dark.

So... who was the man in the photo?

As a side point, who is still around? With two episodes to go, the main characters are just getting down to a number I can handle, but I still can't tell most of them apart. As far as I can gather, at the end of the episode...

Little girl and mother are in the sheriff's office looking at files.

Abby and her boyfriend are chasing Wakefield through the woods.

Blond guy and black guy have just emerged from the tunnel into the woods.

Some other man and woman are in a car blocking the manhole in the road. I think the man is the bridegroom of the original wedding party, mainly by a process of elimination. Based on what makes dramatic sense, I think he might be the man in the photo. The woman might be the bride or her sister -- I don't know which of those two is still alive, if either or both. Or it might be some other woman. All the women look identical.

Are any other main characters still alive?

Are there any identifying characteristics that might help me tell these people apart? I have a feeling things are going to get complicated and confusing in these final two episodes, and I'll need all the help I can get. (Blond guy, black guy, and little girl I can manage to spot, thank you.)

Ok Robbie Here's your run down;

You've got Henry (the bridegroom) and Jimmy (Abby's Boyfriend) the wrong way around

The fellow that is sat in the car with Trish (The Bride) and ominously takes the shotgun off of her at the end of the episode is Jimmy (Abby's Boyfriend)

The two running around the Woods (if I remember correctly) are Abby and Henry (the bridegroom) who just saw Cal (Cool English Fellow) and Chloe (Hot Girlfriend of Cool English Fellow) snuff it at the hands of Wakefield.

Sully and Danny (Blonde Guy and Black Guy) have just emerged from the tunnels into the woods as you said.

Shea (Mum Of Creepy Little Girl /Sister of Bride) and Madison ( Creepy Little Girl herself) are in the Sheriffs attic looking through his files and found a file on Jimmy (Abby's Boyfriend)

The only other major character that is still alive other than the ones mentioned would be Wakefield Himself

So there you go, that is everyone who is still alive as at the end of Episode 11, Just two left to go now! I feel a twist coming!

May i just say the the Character writers for this show are pretty fantastic, I was dreading the inevitable point when Cool English Guy (my favourite character) and his American Mrs would get it and was holding onto the vain hope that they would be part of the small band of survivors.

I can only assume that because they were so likeable they had to go to make it more poignant. Ah well by Sunday all will be revealed!

So I got the dramatic continuity right but the actual identity wrong. That's not too bad. I could never tell those two fellows apart. (And the photo didn't look anything like either of them, not to me anyway.)

Dramatic continuity is a major way I keep track of who's who in any TV show or movie. After almost 50 years of practice, I'm fairly good at it! But there are just too many people this time around.

My usual source of "who's that" answers is Colin, whose eye for faces is disgustingly good. (I repay the favour by telling him what people say.) But he hasn't been paying much attention to Harper's Island, and he missed the photo scene completely, so he couldn't even point and say "that's the same guy".

Glad i could help! I have a bit of a knack for these sorts of things i can normally get names and faces down by the second or third episode of a series. And also seem to unconciously accumulate various pieces of trivia about the characters!

It's what makes it so hard for my Girlfriend to watch films like Harry Potter with me as i seem to have absorbed the books in their entirity and have to point out where they differ from the films!
