Football Betting System

Postby MagicBill » Sep 24th, '09, 00:28

Well, maybe it's more a thought process than a strict 'system', but I've already won a couple of grand this season using this technique...

Basically on a Friday I print off the following league tables:

Premiership
Championship
League 1
League 2
Spanish La Liga
Italian Serie A

I also print off all the fixtures for the each of these leagues that particular weekend.

I then look at each set of fixtures rather carefully to see if any of the top 3 teams are playing any of the bottom 3 teams in each league.

Typically you get between 5 and 8 'hits' by the time you look through all 6 leagues. This is often enough to give you 20/1 (at the very least) on your money when you put all the better placed teams on to win on an accumulator.

I do all this online cause you typically get better odds and if you shop around you'll find the best prices.

Obviously there's no such thing as a 'sure thing', but by putting this little bit of science behind your bet you're certainly stacking the odds in your favour.

The biggest problem is being disciplined and not becoming too greedy. Some weeks there might only be 3 or 4 hits - that's ok - and other weeks there might be 9 or 10, but I generally stick to 7 teams if I can. Also, don't be tempted to go much further outwith the top 3 v bottom 3 rule. 5th placed team v 4th bottom for example = not really a good bet!

Anyway, say you stick a £10 on each weekend and the odds average out at 20/1 most times - you'd need to lose 20 consecutive weekends not to at least break even and, really, that's never going to happen!

I know this is all rather obvious, but most people I've showed it to have been rather intrigued, so I thought I'd share it with the majority of you who are of the legal age to gamble (!)(sensibly!).

Let me know how you all get on if anyone tries it! I have my 7 fixtures picked out for this weekend - PM me for any questions.

Oh, and the great thing about this system is that as the season goes on, the league tables reflect form and performance more accurately thus increasing the likelihood of success!

I heard of someone who used to bet on all matches in a league finishing 3-3.
The odds were good enough to come out on top most weeks.
Usually one 3-3 draw was enough, and when there were two, he made a tidy sum.

Then the bookies noticed and closed down the odds.....

(Apparently the manager at the guy's bookies was doing the same system!)

But it goes to show that there are some systems that can work.

Intriguing, Magicbill have you ever heard of matched betting? That's quite an interesting "system" it works on free bets given by online companies I wouldn't do it justice with my explanation but if you look it up online you may well be interested. It's another one of those ways to minimise your losses for long enough until you win.

There's no way I could be bothered to look up that much information about football matches.

I've got a running £1 per week on the football pools, with the same numbers each week, and that's more than enough sporting involvement for me.

Haven't got rich yet, but I have won £14 on two separate occasions. Which means, so far, the football pools have done more for me than the Royal British Legion lottery or the local hospice lottery, both of which also get £1 a week off me and haven't paid any returns yet.

No, no, no! You bet on the top teams to win.

For example, this week you bet on the teams in capitals to win (league position is in brackets):

LIVERPOOL (3rd) v Hull (19th) - PREM
Ipswich (23rd) v NEWCASTLE (2nd) - CHAMPIONSHIP
WEST BROM (1st) v Crystal Palace (16th) - CHAMPIONSHIP
BRISTOL ROVERS (3rd) v Brighton (19th) - LEAGUE 1
DAG & RED (2nd) v Morecambe (19th) - LEAGUE 2
REAL MADRID (1st) v Tenerife (16th) - LA LIGA
JUVENTUS (2nd) v Bologna (16th) - SERIE A

6 of the 7 teams this week are at home, so the odds might not be as good as next week when perhaps only 3 or 4 of the top teams are at home.

Either way it's still a good bet! And, Robbie, it only takes about 30 mins to look through all the information - not a great deal of time really when you consider the money you could win!

MagicBill, Just out of curiosity which online site do you use to place your bets with?? And if you don't mind me asking how much on average do you put on each of your 7 teams each week?

I usually bet with Ladbrokes.

Typically I divide 1000 by the accumulative odds to see how much I need to bet to win £1000. It's usually around the £30 mark, but you don't have to be so greedy!

Based on league position and form, here are this week’s 7 teams to win:

MAN UTD v Sunderland

ARSENAL v Blackburn

NEWCASTLE v Bristol City

SHEFF UTD v Doncaster

Brighton v MK DONS

Port Vale v BOURNEMOUTH

BARCELONA v Almeria

That gives you approx 24-1 your money.

There are some additional good bets in the English 2nd division, as follows:

Hereford v DAG RED

Lincoln City v ALDERSHOT

Morecambe v SHREWSBURY

Burton Albion v ROCHDALE

Adding any (or all of these) to your coupon will boost your odds, but bear in mind that would mean 5 away wins in the 2nd division – pretty unlikely, although all 4 of the above teams do hold superior league positions and goal difference.

Betting all 11 of these teams to win gives you 732-1 your money! So for a £27 bet you win £20,000.

Good luck!

I'll stick to using a Martingale system on roulette I think.
I suspect mention of this later tonight.

Never could get the hang of football.

Col's father was a bookie. He put him off gambling at a very early age by pointing out, "See all the punters coming up and handing over their money? See how well we live on the difference between what they give me and what I give back?"
