NAME THE EFFECT (PLEASE)!

Postby dat8962 » Mar 9th, '05, 23:54

I recently saw two brass cylinder which I THINK may be called slot boxes because of the secret method used.

They were two brass cylinders, similar to the plastic tubes that you get 35mm photo film inside (for those real photographers who haven't yet gone completely digital). Both cyliners had a long screw brass top/lid, and one cylinder is slightly smaller than the other and fits inside.

Without giving the secret away, the effect is to vanish a ring or a coin and to then produce the sealed brass cylinder which is then opened, only to reveal the second cyliner inside which when opened reveals the ring, coin etc that was vanished. All of this happens in seconds. The question from the spec is how did the vanished item get inside of the cylinders so quickly?

The method of placing the object inside of the cylinders is (I thought) ingenious and the cylinders are examinable after the object has been removed.

QUESTION?

Firstly - Is this a slot box and if not, what is the name of the cylinders?
Secondly, where can I buy a good quality specimen?

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

I think that is where the person that I saw got his from. I'll try a search on TangoMagic and see where that gets me. Any further advise is appreciated, escpeically the approximate cost as I've been offered a set for £35.00
