You know, although I perform a different version of this effect, I tried once to learn the version in question and could never pull off the move where it pops out of the deck. Frustrating.

yes! thats the bit I'm having trouble with
I suppose I'll just have to reveal the card a different way

Is that in Mark Wilson's complete course?

I didn't even know there was a torn and restored card in there. Been looking around for one for a while.
As with most things in magic, Mark Wilson seems to be the answer...

Is there anything that's not in that book? Definitely the most useful magic related book I've bought...

Worth adopting as a motto, 'The answer's in Mark Wilson - now what's the question?'

I had a disaster last Saturday with the reveal. Instead of the torn card jumping out of the deck I somehow let go of the whole deck and it flew all over the table. This was at a birthday party booking I was partiularly pleased to get! I laughed it off and I think I got away with it......

The card popping out of the deck is a great way to reveal the restored card. I came up with a torn and restored effect years ago that used this move. The only advice i can give on this is to practice. The first few times the card will probably either stay in the deck or fly across the room, but just keep at it. Getting it to pop out correctly is more of a knack than actual skill, and when the knack is aquired you will find you can do it every time. Jim

The only thing I think Mark Wilson's book is missing is an index. So much stuff in it, it can be hard to find something specific.

Having said that, I think I've looked through it so often I can normally find what I'm looking for quickly enough anyway...

The one I'm talking about, it the Complete Course in Magic.

It really is pretty complete. That and a bit of imagination (and practice) would be enough to get you to quite a good level I'd have thought...

And I got mine for a fiver. Try amazon market place...

There's more than one edition, but I'm never sure which is which. My hardback copy from the 1990s is missing the last chapter - Reputation Makers, I think it's called.

The contents of the older edition are here:

Having read this post I though t I'd have a bit of an experiment with the it. At first I couldn't get the reveal to work but by messing around with where I was holding the corner of the deck and different prssures of grip on the cards, I eventually got the hang of it. I think you need to hold as little of the deck as possible with a relatively light grip but not too light as otherwise your cards will fly everywhere. Also get your spectator to tear off the whole corner rather than just the index.

Getting the reveal of this one right is just a nack. Try holding the card with in different places and with different pressures and see what works for you. I don't use that reveal because it doesn't fit my patter but I was playing around with it last night and it was working nicely.
