Just back from our week in Wales, only to find that Colin's mother died yesterday.

Gaah! My passport expired in May. I should be able to organise an emergency passport, which will entail a trip to London for a face-to-face interview at the US embassy.

We can't buy airline tickets until I know when I'll have a passport, and to make it more interesting they won't issue an emergency passport without proof of travel -- i.e. a receipt for an airline ticket. Which means I'll need to make an appointment with the embassy and then buy tickets in time to print out a receipt to show them. All ASAP.

I may be looking for a place to crash overnight, if some obliging Londoner can offer a sofa.
