Hi

Having difficulty finding a decent UV pen to write on playing cards. I know Big Blind Media do a UV package and there are v.expensive packages that can be sourced from certain websites in the US - but has anyone out there found a good UV pen that can be bought in the UK that doesn't rub off or fade in a Sharpie type way?

Any help appreciated.

In all honesty mate if you go into your local council building I know they give you free uv pens to mark your valuables incase they are stolen think they are called anti theft pens, get them from local council or police stations.

They are just normal UV pens but are free.

I think that may differ from coucil to council. When I used to work in a warehouse the police gave us a similar stuff, but it was in a little bottle like nail polish and you dabbed it on. Might still work for cards, but I think it could be too watery.
If thats the case, security firms often sell them, and they are dirt cheap.

Seeing as something like that is an anti-theft one, it should be pretty decent and reliable. Not sure if you could get a UV light from there though, didnt look.

Thanks all - have you tried/tested either on playing cards?

I have a couple of UV pens from various places - the ink on some are just not bright enough and the one I have that is bright fades and smears on playing cards.

Ive never tested them, no, sorry. But if you could snag a free one off the council like Tim suggested and test it out on an index card or a joker, then you'd be no worse off. If its the watery stuff I mentioned though, that glows extremely bright, but did take thirty seconds or so to set, so thats probably useless for you.

Hope it works out with a cheap/free pen though, if you find out, let us know, could save a bundle on UV effects.

I may have a couple left in my desk at work as I got some once from a community support officer handing them out if I do I will test it out and let you know.

If you get it for free I don't think it would be the best but in all fairness ya can't complain either really.
