Found this funny video compilation of Criss Angel misusing the word travesty...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPyweIhllVs
However, it does bring up discussion on some important issues and problems mentalism brings up, which I hope can calmly be discussed here.

Thats pretty funny, its such an odd word for him to pick as well. However that last clip was from Phenomenon, did anybody see that? He challenged America and Uri Gellar to try and predict the contents of the envelope. It was quite an interesting challenge.
Surprisingly enough, Uri didnt get it right.....

It certainly means that in Bulgarian (but spelled slightly differently).
Don't ask me how I know (and it's not Google Translate...)

I'm sure I heard Eddie Izzard say it once.

I was in Bulgaria a couple of years ago and there was a surprising demand for 'travesti'. I only know because of the posters advertising them everywhere. Honest.

In this particular area of Bulgaria where there were posters advertising this everywhere... Anything else of particular interest that drew you to the location of many posters?

Actually, yes, they were everywhere. It was in Varna, which is a sort of Soviet-era Blackpool.

Well it certainly isn't the true and full definition of
travesty...

To be fair I hardly consider myself stupid but I thought a travesty was something that was grossly unfair which... kind of works.
On a more serious note the playing on peoples emotional weaknesses for monetary gain has serious implications and the example of 9-11 is an excellent case to examine in regards to the "we can see the future" group.

Yeah his reasons for the challenge were sound.
I appreciated that from him.

I liked the other YT Vids which pointed out that Uri said 19 and 1 therefore he should have been given the $1Million. Not a word about the 40 he also mentioned!
