This will be quite a short review I imagine, but it does not need to be very long. Still, I hope you find it useful.

Viability: This IT spool is highly invisible, it is the second most IT I have after wooly cotton, but this compensates for that in that although it may be SLIGHTLY thicker, it has a mat-black finish and does not shine or reflect light easily. It is highly invisible and I would give it 9/10 for "stealthness".


Strength: This IT has a lot more strength than you may think, it can hold a suprising amount of weight and still be perfectly invisible. 8/10.

Amount: You receive 25 feet per spool, and each spool is about £4 ($6). Though this may not sound like a lot it is plenty, and as long as you know how to handle IT you should be able to make one spool last a while. The Spider Pen itself actually comes with a compartment hidden that allows you to carry a spare spool just in case! 7/10.

Summary: Do not be afraid of using this thread up-close, or even in broad daylight if you know how to position yourself correctly. It cannot be seen (pun intended) very easily. If you are using this with the Tarantula then it is COMPLETELY invisible, and I mean COMPLETELY invisible, because the thread itself is moving very very fast, and cannot be detected by any human eye, even from an inch away.

It also has a "locking" feature, which means you can set it up beforehand to decide how much thread it will release. It can release up to all 25 feet, or just 6 feet, or just an inch, depending on how tall you are, or what you want to do. This means you don't need to "grip" the thread at all, or wrap it around your fingers or anything, which is very useful.

Hope that helps, the thread is very good and works excellently with the Tarantula and Spider Pen.

I'm considering getting the Tarantula, and have used IT before mainly for Humming Card type effects, although have given up in recent time as after setting it up, I have found it sags on something or snaps, and that seemingly futile 2 mins prep is gone in a second (yeah, finding that thread, etc, it all adds up)

So want I want to know is: specific to the Tarantula, and perhaps as a bonus, having a thread I can use that will stand the test of a Hummer Card, what IS the best thread to use?

I've looked at Steve Fearson's stuff, and the EVE seems strongest (it apparently holds a deck of cards), and consists of three fibres, which can be stripped to one, obviously, which makes stripping sound easy. There's also his Vectra line, which I think is like EVE, but sounds less strong, although one strand can apparently hold a deck of cards.

I'm still a novice to spools and reels (yes, I know those of you may say to try other IT products first, but I'm willing to stick my head above the parapet), so is there anything specific to the Tarantula which means some threads will work better, or is there, for example, somehow a thread you can just slot it, rather than go to the trouble of stripping threads. For instance, the Spider Thread (unsure if it is specifically for Spider Pen or whether it is also made for use with Tarantula): if it was designed for Tarantula and you somehow just slot this in, and you are good to go, rather than faff around, then that would do me fine.

Any advice please? I'm a layman in that the pictures of Spider Thread seems to be some kind of device you just install, and rather than have a DIY approach to IT, it suggests you simply put one of these spools in and the device takes care of the rest? If I'm wrong, then I'm looking for a strong IT, specifically to cope with the demands of the floating ring effect.

Problem I find with the Hummer Card is that after 2 seconds, the spec thinks there must be a thread, and there is, and there is little you can do to disprove this correct assumption.

Something like LeClair's work on thread, specifically his floating bill, builds beautifully to a float, which then drops clean onto the spec's hand.

If you want to float something, that is much better magic, if you ask me. Which you didn't. But there you go.
