Being a bit of a businessman myself I was a bit shocked when I visited Mike's shop.

Most shop owners want as much passing trade as possible as well as repeat business. However, unless you already know of it's existence you would never walk in out of curiosity. I knew it was there but on my first visit I thought I had an old address and that the shop must have moved !

After speaking at length to Mike in his shop (actually I think it was him speaking at length to me) I was rather amazed at his non-business like attitude.

Amazingly it seemed to me that he was so passionate about magic that he will only sell to magicians and doesn't really care about making a profit !!! He seems to do it simply for the love of it.

A rather old fashioned view of things. Somewhat refreshing but not conducive to making money !

I applaud you Mike for your extraordinary commitment to the art of magic but in my view you should charge full p&p. People expect to pay it these days.

I have always offered free postage on my few products to anywhere in the world. But then I have always been a generous soul. I admit that I wince when I have to send something post free to some God forsaken place like Australia or Japan since it costs a hell of a lot more.

It is remarkable how fast mail from Canada to the UK is. About three days. It takes longer than that to mail to another part of Canada. And to the States it takes about a week and sometimes longer.

Incidentally it occurs to me that British magicians may well find it a good deal to order from Canada. Even with postage Canadian prices are very competitive. When British visitors come into my local Toronto magic shop they are amazed at how cheap prices are in comparison to back home. Davenports for example sell at twice the retail price my Toronto magic shop does. Why? Simply because rents are so high in London and the exchange rate is well in favour of Canadian prices.

Have a look at this site and you will see. The Dollar prices when changed into pounds will be very competive indeed. Divide the dollar price by two to get the approximate pound equivalent.

Mike old chap. You've got plenty of money as it is! And you do have to help the British Colonies after all!

Besides if you can come on here and advertise I don't see why I can't! On the other hand I am not making any money out of it so I don't know why the hell I bothered.

Perhaps I would be better off advertising my own books which can be found at www.marklewisentertainment.com once you go to the "For Magicians Only" section.

I must find out one day how to add a signature to my posts. God alone knows how much money I have been losing over the years by not doing that.

Anyway I have no need of money. I have a best selling book coming out. It is on my favourite subject. Me.

It is called "The Lives of a Showman" and you will all find it terribly fascinating. I will announce the date of publication in my usual low profile manner. I will not be offering pre-publication discounts otherwise you will all never see your money again either because I will run off with it or drop dead before you get the product.

There Mike. That is how you blatantly advertise. I am MARK LEWIS and don't need a whole thread to do it.

Brilliant!

Well said!!!!

I like your style (& your perception of my reaction!) you wouldn't be the "Controversial Mark Lewis" if you were any different.......

Money is of very little importance to me at all, I enjoy what I do & will never make a million! that's fine I absolutely accept that.

I love what I do, & that is far more important to me than just "Making Money".

Obviously I have to keep going, but I think I can ride the storm, at least I have plenty of stock!!!

I'd like to think that the Canadians would support THEIR magic bussiness's, as much as I'd like to THINK that the U.K. magicians would support theirs.

I'm not only about self promotion, I would try to promote ALL that I truly BELIEVE IN!

To prove my point just put my name in a google search, you might be surprised at what it "Dishes Up!".

All good wishes

Mike
