welcome to the world of magic fleno...there are many wise folk scattered along the forums who will defenitely help and guide you as you progress along..as for myself cant say im much of help as i too have just started...im not a very big fan of card tricks but nonetheless i still incorporate them into my routines...but only use them as ice breakers to get things started...personally i feel closing with a card trick is rather boring but then again thats my opinion...i have a hard time learning sleights so maybe thats why im not a big fan of card tricks...but as read along in the forums there are some who can do some killer effects with cards...as for do's and dont's you'll learn that as you perform for people but for now just practice...

Just to counter what zigzag said, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool cardician. I have Misled, and that's my only non-card trick (as opposed to Twisted Sisters, ID, Color Monte...)

Born To Perform is a great DVD - you can learn so much from it. I highly recommend learning everything on it. The biddle trick especially gets great reactions!
