What happened to Paul Zenon?

Postby Matthius88 » Dec 22nd, '09, 15:10

Just a post to have a few words about Paul Zenon, one of my favorite close-up/street magicians of all time. Does anybody know if he is still going? Its been a few years since I saw him on TV or anything, he had some absolutely classic routines, I used to look forward to his shows on ITV (I think it was ITV anyway) every week.

He awkwardly performed on countdown relatively recently(within a year?). Haven't heard much else.

he was playing the London Paladium a couple of months back, and he regualy does the comedy store in london. Plus untold corporate gigs.
Just because hes not on the telly every five minutes, it doesnt mean he's given it all up

Glad to hear he's still going, he's a very funny bloke, would quite like to go see him live. I love the tax disc through windshield trick he did on his Christmas special.

I randomly saw him going past Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester a few weeks ago. I momentarily considered asking him to sign a playing card I just happened to have on me, but was in a rush. Shame.

Wasn't Paul recently on tour with Harry Hill on the Magic Bus tour or have I got him mixed up with someone else?

I remember watching Paul Zenon as i was growing up and actually thought he was good.

I was surprised to see him standing next to me at the bar one night a few years back in The Ruskin.

I was about to approach and say hello, when an eager fan (maybe a non magician) beat me to it, he said to Paul:

"Hi, Paul Zenon!? big fan mate! I was wondering if you could show me and my wife some magic?"

Paul replied "F*** off!"

The man said "Geez, no need to be rude mate, i was only..."

"Listen! are you going to pay me!?? NO! so f*** off!!"

The guy looked bewildered "I was only saying i was a big fan and asked you to perform some tricks mate, no need for that!"

then paul asked "whts your job mate!?"

"I'm a clothes salesman"

"oh, then sell me some clothes then! GO ON! SELL ME SOME!, Exactly, i dont bother you to do what you do so F*** OFF!"

..........now....maybe Mr Zenon had had a really bad afternoon, maybe this regular Joe was the millionth person to pester him, I frankly found it rather rude, I feel there may have been another way to say what he did.

Boy am i glad i didnt approach! lol.....

I have to admit, someone asking you to 'do some mind games on me' or 'show me a trick magic boy' can be extremley vexing at the wrong time, but I'd never talk to someone like that, I usual find 'No I'm busy, thanks' works just fine .
But, 'Go on!! :P ' = instantaneous death following my psychological medusa stare, followed by an my hollywood movie line 'hows that for a mind game? '
Anyhow... ( ) Totally out of order, but still- he has a point: you don't go up to someone and ask them to do their job for your entertainment, I wouldn't go 'Hey! Gordon Brown- could you spend my money for me?' or 'David Cameron- could you insult Gordon Brown for me?'
