Most Chosen Card?

Postby Yano » Dec 22nd, '09, 14:26

Hi I'm just wondering does anyone have some statistics on the most chosen card when asked to name a card? I'm guessing theres no statistics but i just wanted to ask around anyways ^^.

From experience can anyone tell me what suit or number/picture card you usually get answered?

I've read a few things and apparently hearts is the most common said suit, but idk i just want to hear from your experiences ^^

There was an ongoing online survey I was hoping to get to use in Naked Mentalism III, but the top ten or so kept changing as the votes came in and now the domain is parked.

Its funny actually, I just noticed the other day that, out of the people I know, most men pick clubs and most women pick hearts. I imagine its very, very subjective to different groups of people though.

I think I read somewhere, maybe Pure Effect, that women will often pick the queen of hearts. I've found that maybe 60-70% of the time this is true. The Karnivale Midnight deck I have even has a little card for predicting this which I have used several times, gets great reactions when it works. When it doesn't I just use a different trick, but still, for those times it does it is and absolute gem.

ye it would vary alot i guess, but I'm trying to go for a multiple out prediction thingy. So ye i wouldn't mind if this worked 1 out of 30 or so times since that 1 time it works is golden. If not then ye as u said just move on with another trick or just pass it as a joke

Oh i see thanks i thought males pick spades but its nice to know they pick clubs, well not all the times but ye ^^

I've heard (but can't remember where) that women tend to pick hearts and men pick spades. Magicians, however, tend to go for clubs.

I'm sure I have seen some stats somewhere...

Ahh yes, here we go...

The ever so clever show Scam School did an episode demonstrating what they call a Mind Control Scam using a mix of Robert Frost poetry and Youtube. Somewhere along the way, they realised that they have some interesting data, pretty much the most popular answers to when someone is asked to name a card. Fairly old data and not particularly scientific, but useful none-the-less...

I did some looking into this a while back, women do tend to go with the queen of hearts, there didn't really seem to be a pattern to men's choices although one of the least chosen cards seemed to be the ace of spades. I didn't really find any reliable patterns though.

I find the favourite card varies from night to night, but for some reason that I cannot explain several people will select the same card during an event.

I have one effect where I ask them to name a card (phil plus). After I have wow'ed them I put that card at the bottom of the pack and place all the cards in the box ready for the next table. Occasionally the next table will also select the very same card and it just happens to be the first card they see when I open the box.

The card is usually something obsure as well. Perhaps I am giving off some hidden NLP clues (without me even realising) or perhaps there is some deep subliminal advertising going on behind the bar.

The bottom card flash is so so useful. It's been talked about in a few sources and obviously, like quite a few psychological forces is best used nonchantently.

My favourite psychological force is the Vernon one of 5 cards. A real gem.

I came up with an effect by accident a few years ago which made use of flashing the bottom card. I used 2 people... Got one person to pick a card (the transmitter), then controlled it to the botom and flashed it to person 2 (the receiver) with a wink. That made them an instant stooge and needless to say they received the card each and every time. It blew everyone else away and the stooge was more than happy to play along. As far as I'm aware I came up with the method and don't consider my sharing it here as exposure. However, if the moderators feels differently then please feel free to delete it.

Vaguely unscientific, but I've very quickly set up http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MV6NDLB if anybody is interested

Unless your in a non english speaking country. When I was in Denmark, Germany, Sweden and Holland the Ace of Spades was picked one out of every three times. This is probably due to the fact that, in true english tradition, I insisted my hosts speak english rather than learn their language, so Ace of spades would come easily to them.

I concur. I always ask people to name the first card that comes into their heads. If they don't think about it or pause at all the most common card stated is ace of spades followed by queen of hearts, then ace of hearts.

When I am told to think of any card, my immediate reaction is to choose the Ace of Spades, swiftly followed by an inclination to change the card to something "less obvious" - normally, I realise, this is the 2 of Clubs.

This is quite useful because I think if people do feel they have chosen an obvious card they will change their choice so the patter "Ah, you tried to trick me, you changed from your first choice." appears to work quite frequently and easily to play down if they did not change their choice.
