My nightmare before Christmas....

Postby Lady of Mystery » Dec 22nd, '09, 11:34

This Christmas is turning in to a nightmare....

We've got Dave's mum, dad and brother comming down from Stirling to stay with us over Christmas. So last week Dave decided to give the spare room a lick of paint. Not a bad idea, then he also decided that the plaster on the wall needed redoing so hacked it all down. We've now had to move into the half plastered spare room so his family can have our room.

Sunday the oven gave up working, called the man out. He couldn't do anything with it so it was off to the shop to get a new one.

Then yesterday just to top it all off, I managed to slip on the snow and ploughed the car into a hedge. The car's written off and I look like I've just stepped out of the ring with Joe Calzaghe.

Anything else want to go wrong?

Sorry to hear your woes, once things go wrong they seem to keep on going wrong. Hope it all gets sorted soon for you.

Oh no! That's terrible. Still, that's the three things now and it's a Christmas you'll never forget!

Ah, you'll look back on it and laugh. Everything always seems to happen this time of year.

A couple of years ago we ended up buying a new microwave for Christmas at short notice, because I blew up the old one in impressive fashion.

And somewhere between five and ten years ago, in very early January, our old boiler decided to give up the ghost. It didn't just stop working -- the whole bottom dropped out and flooded the kitchen. Having the new boiler installed meant a hole in the wall all day during a bitter snowstorm.

Although that sounds awful look on the bright side!

The car may be written off but the insurance will get a new one. As you have had such a terrible accident and have the war wounds to show it, the inlaws (who you have kindly given up your room for) can take some (all) of the burden of Christmas dinner etc.

The room will get completed eventually and will look much nicer as a result and you can have a nice Christmas in the warm without being out in the precarious icy conditions while you recover!

Merry Christmas! :D

thanks all, it could have been worse. Mum's offered to come by early and help with the dinner so should be ok, just not what I needed before Christmas. And to make it all worse, I can't even have a drink becuase I'm on anti inflammatories and pain killers  And this horrible neck collar I've got to wear doesn't even go with the dress I bought to wear out on Christmas eve (if I can make it out of the house, that is).

Hey, anti-inflammatories and painkillers go REALLY well with a drop of alcohol. You might end up zonked on the sofa all night, though.

Our Christmas disaster has come in the form of my Grandad - he slipped in the shower, has broken his femur, and also needs a hip replacement. He will be in hospital until the new year, and is on the Operating table as we speak having some plates fitted to meend the femur so they can then replace the hip.

Looks like we have a lot of hospital visits to do over Christmas!

Sorry to hear about your mishaps Becky.... It's small comfort, but you will at some point look back at it all and laugh (not too hard with that neck collar though...).

I was worried that I wouldn't be able to drive home from Elgin to Glasgow after I finish work on Christmas day because of the snow..... But now I would appear to have a suspected case of swine flu. We were going to surprise the family over xmas dinner with the news that my girlfriend is expecting a baby - but now I can't take the risk of passing my germs to her. So our news will have to keep whilst I spend the festive period on my own in my little bedsit flat on my back(is that the sound of the world's smallest violin I hear?). To say I'm annoyed would be a bit of an understatement....

Bah humbug!! There'd better be something good on the telly on xmas day!!

:(

Commiserations to all, and double to Mark. Hope everything turns out hunky-dory for everybody in the end!
