Your top five of 2009

Postby TheStoner » Dec 23rd, '09, 16:49

Mine are...

1) The Manchurian Approach (4 DVD set) - everything you need to know about hypnosis in the context of magic/mentalism. These DVDs and the associated Anthony Jacquin books/workshops literally changed my life.

2) Professional Opportunist (2 DVDs) - modern card magic (and a dash of hypno) from James Brown. Fast moving and crowd pleasing. State of the art stuff. You'd better be good at culling though...

3) Greg Wilson lecture - I saw this at the HCMS and it was mind-blowingly entertaining. I immediately went out and bought everything Greg had ever done, he is an absolutely world-class performer.

4) Tarantula - remember this? All the hype and then all the disappointment. But looking back over the last few months this has really proved its worth and I'm constantly using it to great responses.

5) Ring Flight Revolution - Dave Bonsall has created the world's best ring flight. Just perfect.

No books on this list as, although I've bought loads, none of them were first printed in 2009.

True - but so far it's been almost entirely a discussion about the "13 steps" DVDs. And people do love their lists...so give 'em what they want!

This is true, 13 steps has been the only contribution :(

I started a thread along these lines last year and got an equal lack of response.
I don't think I've bought five things this year.

Tarantula is definately my top effect of the year. Love it, all the negative reviews are so wrong.
The Fred Robinson book is awesome for card lovers (I'm not one but I can still see it's quality)
i did buy myself a UFO3 this year. This is a thing of beauty but only for the serious worker and of course not a 2009 thing.

1) Reader of minds by Paul Voodini (would have had his other book here but couldn't as it was last year)

2) Murder in mind by Lady of mystery

3) That thing that Fairie, Todd and Tomo keep going on about that I've not even seen yet but I know it's going to be great :D

I'll admit I've not bought much this year though that is about it

Oh forgot,

4) Directors cut both versions.

5) Loochs lecture notes from his Hamberg tour.

There you go :D

Nothing that came out this year particularly amazed me.

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.

Good choices RT - "Reader of Minds by Paul Voodini" would have been my number 6.

Same here. Apart from Manchurian, most of the real blockbusters I bought this year have been out for ages.
