I have always been fascinated by how this would actually look in a dark room under the correct conditions. It seems impossible to me that it could fool anyone but as it has been in use for a long time I assume it must. It's not something I actually want to use, just see in action.
Does anyone know of any decent filmed footage of it being used. If so please point me in the right direction.
In The Psychic Mafia mention is made of a film called "The filming Of A Ghost". Anyone seen it or know where I can get hold of a copy?

I don't know of any films, but certainly stuff can look weird in near-darkness, especially if it's something unusual that you wouldn't expect to see in that environment.

There's also the point that seance audiences were mostly believers. They knew ectoplasm existed and expected to see it, so they did.
