Is this the same test Derren Brown performed on the telly at the British Library? Certainly it looked just as impressive. I'd like to learn this.

Very clean effect.

Yes, that is very clean :D

Amazing effect... and exactly how a real mind reader would do it.

And I have no idea how you did it. Unless it involves previously mentioned transaction with the horned red guy.

Very well done!

It looks quite a lot like it.

However, with Derren who has a larger budget, cameras all over the place and a huge crew to follow his smallest biddings, for some reason it didn't seem as convincing as this. At least to me.

Then again, the method may be completely different.

Nice job, Chris!

Yes, Derren can acheive so much with technology, assistants etc that it's not always worth trying to work out his method.

So where can we 'buy' the method used by Beardy?

It is just an application of a principle that is widely known.

Not to me! I've read 13 Steps and various other mentalism books and I don't recall ever finding a book test that plays as cleanly as this. As a novelist, more known for my novels than for my magic, this type of effect would be perfect for me, as a way of transitioning from the novels to the magic.

Must .... learn .... this............... argh!

I don't think Chris should reveal the method used. There are plenty of book tests around. It would be better for those impressed with his performance to find a method and make it their own, rather than ask a performer how he did it.

There are SO many around that it's very difficult to choose. I've read about so many, and none seem terribly clean or fair. Maybe someone might point me in the right direction, even if they'd rather not be specific...

STOOGES!

On a serious note though, thanks for the feedback. Another good book test worth checking out is the brook test. The hoy is another winner for those gimmickless situations also

I do prefer gimmickless stuff. I love being able to perform anytime anywhere some of my best stuff. Nothing is worse, in my opinion, than having somebody watch one of your performances, asking you to perform an effect, and you not being able to do it.

And to further tease you and add fuel to the fire?

The book test in this thread is all of the above - gimmickless, and can be performed in most surroundings...

Thank for the response :)

Love

Chris

Good luck with the show. I read the website - a bit too far for me. How did it come about? It must be exciting to be putting on a stage show. I hope to do that but I think it may be a few years away yet.

Look at my post. Not around my post, at my post. Into my post. Focus on every single letter as you count backwards from 500. And as you count, and as you read on, you become completely relaxed. And when you reach the bottom of this paragraph, your hand will move the pointer to the "pm" button, which you will click upon, and you will have a great sense of well-being and a willingness to share, and you will type out the method to the book test, and you will feel good doing this, you will feel a peace and a sense of accomplishment, and when you have typed out the method, you will send it to me, and it will make you feel good, happy, extatic.

And you can begin to do all these things... now

Haha. Made me chuckle!

Seriously though I'm very surprised at the response! I didn't expect it to be all that well received. I much preferred my 'bang' video! But then again my family preferred this effect too...

I'm keeping my lips sealed on this one, apart from reiterating the fact that approx 99% of magicians know the method. They just don't know that they know the method.

Just logged in, and the video has a 1 star rating!

Gutting! I didn't think that it was all that bad!

I found it hard to watch at first, presentation wise, but once you get to the bare bones etc, it is a really nice effect.

Oh by all means. This is definitely showing the bare bones of the effect, not the presentation ;)

Although for her it couldn;t have been any better :D

I'm sure many would have liked it, I just find it hard to watch magicians sometimes!

As for the effect itself, very nice. 99% good...if it included a lateral palm, some riffle stacking, a greek deal and a one handed table faro, it's be 100%!
