Watch prediction

Postby Contrabass101 » Dec 18th, '09, 14:16

I've had to take a small break from mentalism for a while, because of other tasks at hand, but now I'm back, and have begun considering my "style" as a performer, as so many here have recommended (thanks for all the advice by the way, it has helped me enormously!).

I have come to find, that my style is somewhat closet-bizzarist... I like to use interesting props and stories - I like to have a meaning to the things I do and use. Also, since I am myself highly visual, I like to use nice-looking props (i.e. I would rather use an old pen than a pencil or a ball-point).

Banacheck's Book Test of the Ring (with LOTR-books and my own presentation) is perfect for my style.

I have in my possesion a pocket watch, which I would like to use for something like a watch prediction. It fits so well with my temperament, my style and everything, so I would love to find some way to use it.

Any recommendations? Ideas?

In Cassidy's Art of Mentalism book, there is a pocket watch prediction. I can't remember what he predicts though...nothign to do with time I'm sure.

There's a nice effect called Beyond the Witching Hour in Rick Maue's Book of Haunted Magick. It's very story-based and although I've never performed it, it looks pretty good on paper. If you don't own Rick's book, why not?! Go buy it now!

For some reason unknown to me, I read "pendulum" as "speculum".

If you get a BIP book you'll have an easy watch prediction force.

Max Mavens DVD, Nothing, has a nice simple watch prediction effect, name escapes me but no doubt there will be someone who will know it (Synchronicity I think but I am probably wrong). Plus as said before the B.I.P book can be combined for a cool prediction.

Anneman, I'm pretty sure.

Unfortunately, I would loose money, would have to depend on the waiter's acting and lying skills for my effect, and would of course have to dispose of him afterwards to keep things shush. Which in my experience is both troublesome and potentially very messy.

But thanks for all the suggestions! I'll look into it along the way.

very interesting

i have been working on a Pocket Watch prediction for the last year or so and have been trawling the Thai markets for a suitable pocket with Roman numerals for own effect which is as follows

basically without elaborating...
You tell someone that you have a nice pocket watch and that you state that it is set to a time by a previous participant.. ask them what they think the time set on the watch is and then afterwards you bring the watch out of your inside jacket pocket .

The pocket watch is inside a velvet cover or plastic bag with a black envelope in situ which can be left sitting hidden or exposed . Whatever they guess at you tell them to set the watch to the time they thought of ,say 4 o clock

..after some byplay and maybe two forces you open the envelope with all three correct predictions. The predicton for the watch is in Roman Numeral style on the photo or predictio card but that matters not as they can match it up to the watch face if they need to grasp what say "VIII" means . Or one could photograph the watch face and print it on the prediction

Roman numerals adds to the mystery and steers away from the method

look this is my first ever post and im not to sure about how much guys like to give away methods here but if your interested PM me later as im boarding a flight now to Phuket in 10 minutes

There is a nice pocket watch routine in Seance, Osterlind also has a nice watch routine (that I've used many many times) on one of the first 4 DVDs of his mastermind DVDs and Looch has a nice routine on his DVD using a watch and you guessing the time it is set to then them guessing the time it's set too.

Step off the edge and forget the prediction. Start thinking like the bizzarist you are. The watch, which you take off your chain belongs to your long dead great, great, grandma and its haunted. In fact they burned the watch along with the rest of your great, great grandma's possesions when they burned the poor old woman at the stake! Nobody knows how this watch keeps finding its way through the generations. In fact with all you good people around as witness tonight I will once again try to rid myself of the evil. Wrap the watch in a silk bag place everything in a box, lock the box and put it off to the side and banish the evil. Go on with your routines, somwhere near the end the routines start to fail! Yes fail. Squirm out of it by saying it must be getting late reach into your pocket for your pocket watch and look at the time! OH MY GOD its the same watch! Can't be, have a spectator unlock the box on the table just to be sure have the spectator reach in and pick up the bag and of course the watch is not there, it is in fact the one once again on the end of the chain.

Sorry method you will have to work out on your own. But there was an effect awhile ago where the watch would keep re appearing on the end of the chain.

Paul Brook's On Mephisto's Shoulder has a nice routine that would work well with a pocket watch....

I have my own stage routine that involves 30 participants and time.....
