I might be moving more in the direction of bizarre magic, and decided to dust off my I.D. and give it a shot. I realized a few things when putting together my presentation. I hope there is not too much exposure, but most people that care to look for it, know what an ID is anyway.

1) Routine starts off with the deck in the case, cut between two cards of a pair. That way, when taking the deck out of its case, the back of the card shows.

2) The way I present it, I have an "ID" which I give a lot of attention and stress the invisibility of (insert standard gag here). This allows me to call the visible deck a "normal" or "regular" deck in a very off-hand manner.

3) When I take out the spectator's card, I casually cut the deck between that card and it's mate, allowing me to return the deck to the case back-side up. The card is afterwards returned to the case opposite of its mate.

Is this any good, or is it "being too clever"?

Hi. I always do your number three, as far as i know this is pretty much standard. Im a bit confused at number one though. If the cards are cut so that a back is seen when taking them out the box, then what happens if you have to spread from that side ? Maybe im missing something but thats the way i read it anyway. :) jim

I'm not seeing where it has anything to do with bizarre magic. But to answer your question of it being 'too clever' the only way to get a proper answer for that is to go out there and perform it. If the audience likes it then its fine

Okay... I figured it wouldn't be all that original.

Number one is possible because I take the cards out of the box, "turn one around under the table" and then put them back in the box, while the spectator is fiddling around with the imaginary deck. It's a bit like Do As I Do. And it gives me that change to show the back one more time.

The reason this is "more bizar" is because until now I've mainly been asking about mentalism. I am still trying to decide on my genre :)

The ID is a perfect tool for a mind reading set. Thats how I present it at the moment.

Ah, i see what you mean now. I had thought you meant the cards were in that condition when you removed them for the reveal :)
