Oracle Act

Postby luxeomni » Jan 6th, '10, 06:52

i was re watching derren brown evening of wonders taping, and was still amazed by his Q&A act.
While i m very familiar to the Q&A act and cold reading stuff, i still have no clues on how he managed to get the questions, someone mentioned a 'thought transmitter" kind of device so he could see trough envelopes, anyway without exposing anything, i m interested in lectures, or product that can point me to methods to read inside sealed envelopes.

Feel free to pm me for methods or point me to stuff to read ;)

You need a little lateral thinking, there are two ways that I can see this working both using bog standard techniques. I don't think that I can say too much without tipping methods but you'll find both ideas that I'm thinking of in Corinda. Have a read through there and see if anything sounds familiar, you'll need to think about it though because Corinda uses both for totally different effects.

eight methods?! i'll raise you twelve! :D

if you're already familiar with the Q&A thing though, why not just use that info? :) create your own take...

there's a million and one books on Q&A...

i think derren would have used a lot less methods personally...and just been bold...

i was kidding mate, i dont think he used eight, even...

and we'll never know either (hopefully)...

two many techniques at once to juggle...

to the O.P. - there's lots of nelson stuff out there, and as dale just mentioned him Dr. Q...i always find it fun though, to go and create your own version(s) of things...its what we should do...that starting from scratch is the best feeling....doesnt matter who has done what and when really...this is for 'you'....

...and after all, if it has the same effect on the audience why does it matter what the method is :) If it works it works. Tracking down methods and re-inventing things I think is one of the most fun parts of this job :)

i ll go read some R.Nelson stuff so ;) I am searching methods to excite my imagination and create effect or presentation. I m not trying to do the exact same thing as derren, cuz i m clearly not good as him, but so inspiring. IF anyone interested i could share my findings ( without expose).

for the multiple method, it's obvious as there is multiple phase in his q&a; do you also think that when he is blindfolded he's reading the envlope he threw on the floor ? what good set of eyes if true haha.

I've watched the Oracle Act several times now and I've worked out every single stage of what he does, apart from the very first... how he finds out whats in the envelopes, obviously he could use one of many methods; but I wish I knew which.

Yeh it is, but it still bugs me because there's only like three tricks I've ever seen in my life which I can't full work out.

What I would like to know also about his version is the "bought it on ebay" bit, which COULD be cold reading... but if it is then its a very good bit of it.

have a think about it Eshly and there's not a stooge in sight. You've already asked about a method that could be used for this a month or so back.
